Lucy leading today’s surfing. Textbook bottom turn here displaying the “Al Merrick” logo on the bottom of her board.
Schwappah! You know what they say, “A good bottom turn precedes a powerful top turn.” Unfortunately I managed to line up the tree branch obstructing the view.
Crispy clean rollers 🙂
The blue water we see in the mornings during the offseason is beautiful! This guy’s enjoying the spacious wave with his arms spread high and wide.
Caution would be necessary, but this is the perfect set-up to spray-shower the surfer paddling back out.
Lucy has been on an absolute tear lately. Nice projection with this back-side end-section float.
Getting compact and heavy over the front-foot is a good strategy for gliding across fat sections on big boards at Pangas.
It was inconsistent at the Costa Mar peak, but they looked fun when they did roll through. The rights at that peak have the best shape for short-boarding out of all the various peaks of Pangas.
Pangas is a good wave to simply cruise.
Katrin was sharp enough to sit underneath the peaking waves with a whitewater takeoff in anticipation of “the reform”. The waves were so soft today that it was pretty much the only way to get waves on shorter gear.
If you’re going to surf Pangas on a shortboard you need to stay light on your feet (especially out of the pocket) like this gentleman here.
Nami on his way out to show everyone who’s the jefe of Pangas. Cesar is a “soft-power” type of guy though, as you can tell from his relaxed smile and shaka 🙂
Viewer, can you see the sandy water at the bottom of this wave? That’s right, this clearly indicates that this surfer was riding over the sandbar to the North. Now you may also notice the slope of the wave-face was steep enough to permit the surfer to unleash a strong sharp turn. This is why I always try to surf at the side-peaks of Pangas on shorter gear, and longer gear at the middle deep-water rock peak.
That ties up today’s surf action. If you like the weather, but aren’t keen on surfing then another activity of possible interest would be horse-back riding on the beach. The temperature was perfect for it this morning around 8:00am when I shot the report. Anyways, tomorrow looks like we will get a little bump in the swell so be sure to stop back in.
