Somewhere in Nicaragua

I’ll start today’s report with Oscar’s (near complete) epic barrel. You could see him stroking into this right during the opening farm of today’s report.

Crispy clean! Good find Oscar.

This wave had fast line to it. For a moment I thought it might close out. But it didn’t completely shutdown. Anyways, it was fast and Oscar had the odds stacked against him here.

Oscar completely disappeared. And this was from my perspective looking into the barrel. He certainly got deep. I thought he was a goner.

Hey look, we have signs of life!

Looks like Oscar isn’t gonna go down without a fight. You can even see his hair is soaked wet from doing battle with the foam ball.

The fact that Oscar is still cruising steady here with his head down is a testament to the quality of his muscle memory and established instincts in the tube.

Alright his head is back up, but the guillotine blade has begun its descent!

Oscar was just a little too late to the draw. The guillotine lip section got him, but it was an excellent ride regardless. Probably the most tunnel vision he’s received in a month or so given Colorados being dead (for now).

Jeison stayed the busiest of the local crew out there today. He was loving the small, but playful insider rights.

I was pretty far off on my expectations of the wind today. It wasn’t as windy as I was expecting and the direction was actually near perfect for the Costa Mar peak.

I’m not a fan of counter-rotating, but this guy pulled it off with decent style here. He gets a pass for his style haha!

After a nice opening carve, he proceeded to find some shade on the hollower inside section as it began to feel the shallow sandbar underneath.

Oscar might have the most powerful top turns amongst the local crew. The fan of spray he displaced was about equal to the height of the wave. Lock, load, and unwind.

Well the local boys did an excellent job of capitalizing on this morning’s quality window. I got nothing but net, as the wind clocked around side-shore shortly after I left the beach from shooting. Lesson learned: The early bird gets the worm. Tomorrow is forecasted to be a little smaller and a little windier, but if the wind is as good as this morning then we will be stoked.
