Hey everyone. Welcome to Thursday’s surf report from main peak Pangas. The wind was a bit lighter today which was nice, but the size was still fairly small.
John caught the vast majority of the waves that rolled through during my photo window this morning.
Backside cutbacks were the move on the menu today. If you surf Pangas long enough, then roundhouses will eventually become your bread and butter haha.
John wasn’t the only spamming backside carves today haha! I like this guy’s forward leverage and style here.
A rare left. Notice how John is starting to compress as he drops down the face of the wave.
The compression from the prior frame is what enabled John to uncoil and drive through his bottom turn up the face of the wave.
Bam! Compression —> Good bottom turn —> Powerful top turn / lip blast
This frame more accurately depicts Pangas haha. Soft sections and rolling waves. Those steeper section from the earlier frames are rare opportunities that you’ve gotta capitalize on.

John did so many backside cutbacks today that I think he will be doing them in his dreams tonight haha.
If you want to work on your turns on mid-length or longer gear, then you can see that Pangas is an excellent training ground.
You can see in this frame that it was relatively glassy and not too windy out there today. This guy did well to score this gem of a wave. I’m optimistic on tomorrow, as the wind is forecasted to be rather light. So check back in tomorrow for more shredding and waves from paradise.
