This is my uncle Shane “Tio Congrejo” from California loving the Florida size surf! It’s easy to see why we call him uncle crab, it is tuff to get all four limbs on the board at the same time, but some how he gets it done. We give this zero style points, sorry.

Here’s Rex “La Bestia” Calderon hiding from the surf paparazzi. Cool and collected in the air, hard to do my friend!

Sometimes no matter how strong your will is, it’s just not there. Here’s an unknown rider looking for a barrel on a one foot wave. Not gonna happen dude.

Here’s Jose “El Corage” Lopez riding a longboard like no one else… and for good reason! Somebody get that kid a shortboard and or a Joel Tudor video!

Here’s “Tio Congreho” post crab stance drop in with a backside blast! Aunty Eileen would be soooo proud!

We would like to take this time to make a public service announcement… You should wear sunscreen when you surf. Nothin’ says gringo like a lobster red sunburn (or those weird surf hoodie things, for real what’s up with that?)

Here’s me struggling, I was trying to remember how to surf one foot waves all day. I can always pull out a Jacksonville cutback when necessary, but this was all I could muster.

Everyone was bummed about the surf. Even the euro looking hostel kids with funny sunglasses! Dude don’t worry there’s still Flor de Cana in town! That’s it for today and this is probably my last day writing the report so want to say thanks to NSR for putting me up for the summer! I had an amazing time and am ready to book my flight back soon!

Check it out – Surfari Charters’ newest venture, Nicaragua Surf Shop, just opened in the Popoyo area. It is located at Surfari Base in Playa Guascate, just down from Popoyo. Be sure to stop by to pick upfresh fish tacos, cold beer, internet, and gear for all your surfing needs!!
