PLAYA SANTANA

I saw this group a few days ago in Colorado, around 10 guys wearing these colorful orange shirts with their names on their back. I found out today that all of them are from Uruguay.

It looks like it is an interesting group of people, different ages, different styles, all kind of surfboards… united by surfing!

It was inconsistent and messy but there were some waves with relatively good shape, at least they looked good enough to attract surfers into the water to try to catch them.

With this conditions, it looks like somebody has been having enough free time to work on its rock balancing abilities (it wasn’t me, I promise). There were around 4 of them on the beach.

Here is one surfer on a “nice” right. Oh, and look who is showing up? Even Mario got lured into the water.

Mario went straight into some good rides… a couple of pumps to get speed and try a crazy air.

A couple of days ago I mentioned about the dangers of trying to go to Rosada at the wrong tide… it was mid tide and a big set came through and this massive body of water crashed on the reef creating a huge splash that could throw anybody against the rocks like a rag doll. Glad nobody was there.

The Uruguayan convoy… and my truck in the middle. These guys fit tight in three different trucks. With all due respect, this is not cool, they turn every break they go instantly into a ridiculous crowded spot. It’s great they all are traveling together, having fun and stuff, but sorry, that’s too many people at once!

Little by little they all started to get out of the water and chilled at the caseta, checking out the surf while waiting for the rest to get out.

Now that the crowd got reduced considerably, 3 or 4 other surfers stayed a little bit longer to try to catch some good ones but there was not much to pick from.

And Mario was the only one showing some moves.

Everyone probably thinks that Rancho Santana was named after the beach but, actually, it was the other way around. Surfers started calling it Santana beach after the resort but the real name is Jiquelite.And you see that house in the middle of the photo? right behind the Club House? That’s the newest property in NSR’s portofolio!

From its balcony you can check out what’s going on at the beach.

And also the surf! Not a bad location, right? It takes less than 5 minutes walking to get to the Club House where there is a restaurant, a cafe and the beach. You won’t need a car!
