Blue water, offshore winds, and according to Surfline.com, 5-6 feet at 14 sec… Nicaragua perfection!

All the “regulars” of the Reef were out there today… here is Auggie with a nice bottom turn and all his attention on the lip to see if he can get barrel.

The wave didn’t collaborate much with him though, right when he was in position the wave slowed down and barely covered him for a little bit.

Here comes Gray, another regular of the Reef, with a big vertical drop.

Sadly, the nose went down and so did Gray… gnarly wipe out buddy!

Gladly, the jet sky went fast to check on him, but looked like Gray was fine and ready for another bomb.

I didn’t bring the bigger lens so I couldn’t tell who most of the people were, here is an unknown surfer going down on one of the bigger waves of the day.

Then after reaching the bottom, he took his time to turn towards the face, waiting for that lip to break.

He went back to the face right on time to get some nice, big barrel… perfect execution.

You don’t see much turns on this wave but Auggie knows the Reef very well and he is confident enough to get loose with some turns here and there.

Can you see why surfers use helmets here? Look at that boil section, a mistake here could cost you a lot of pain!

Going right it’s usually a mellower take off but, you sometimes even the right gets hollow, at least on the breaking section.

Here is Auggie again, this time instead of going straight down and do a bottom turn, he went for a higher line, slowing down using his body and hand.

As you can see, this strategy worked much better, it put him right in the bowl!

He got completely barreled and managed to stay there for a few seconds… you can still see the tip of his board in there, until the wave clamped on him. Well done Auggie!

This other surfer did the same thing as Bryan on this other wave…

He took a higher line that kept him closer to the lip.

…And managed to get some cover under the lip too.

The Reef might work tomorrow again, we will definitely check it out and hopefully you will see more of this insane/amazing wave that breaks only a few days per year. Saludos!
