When I got there around noon, the tide was so low that the contest wasn’t even running. Good thing for me because I posted up poolside and relaxed a little. Something I don’t really get too much time to do very often.
Once the MC’s and DJ started the music and the contest buzzer, I knew it was time to get down to the beach and start working. Same for this guy!!!!
This wave is so picturesque and ripplable all at the same time, it’s hard not to just stop and stare from any place you’re looking from.
Even from under ther train trestles. Haha j/k making sure you’re reading all the way through. You all know there’s no trains here!
Some pretty epic surfing in Nicaragua on a very, very fine December first I might have to say!
Broken boards aren’t synonymous with just Playa Colorados here, ya know.
The spectator crew was on it!!! Some even watching from their Nica Yachts! jaja
The coolest thing about this break is it’s literally oozing with local kids watching and waiting for their turn to get a nice Tabla to try their hand at surfing.
The bigger local kids have paid their dues and are paving the way for the young up and comers.
NSR, amongst many other friendly establishments helped contribute to this event so could be feasible for it to happen. The locals from far and near all enjoyed a great Sunday Funday contest with ice cold Toñas.
Not a bad turn out for a Nicaraguan surf contest, eh?
The judging panel….. a little less low key and laid back compared to the WSL, I’m sure! But they all did a fantastic job today!
With the delayed start today, they needed to hurry and get through quite a bit of heats still before the sun was starting to go down.
The quarter finals the waves were going off, since the tide was just about right at midday high tide.
And the surfing was equally as epic!
The locals around these parts throw these kinds of maneuvers down all day long.
And then that sunset golden hour hit and it magic time for everyone!
The sun had finally disappeared by the finals, but that wasn’t going to stop any of the competitors from killing every single wave they went on.
Oscar going for a really BIG floater!!!!
The floaters, off the lips, cutbacks and roundhouse cutbacks were the point makers out there in todays waves. Not so many barrels, unfortunately.
With the buzzer horn sounding off, Oscar making the final move of the day and for the win!!!! With some super sick style at that!
They actually ran a very late ladies heat right after the Men’s open, but it was pretty much dark by then. Here was my last shot right before my camera battery died just in time to get the mens finals winners. Way to go boys!!!!
It’s been a super long BUT super fun day. I’m beat, so I am gonna grab some late dinner and crash out! Hope to see you back here tomorrow to see what Baldo brings on your Monday…. Have a good night friends!
