Somewhere in Nicaragua
Howdy folks. We had an un-pitted day for waves. That’s right, gloomy sky’s and onshore winds that kept everyone, well…. somewhere other than playing in the surf. But that doesn’t mean we still can’t have some fun on a down day. Step on in to check it out!
It’s only so often we have a single day in the year when there’s literally not a single surfer out…. so we have to get a little creative. Today I figured or recalled rather that there were some pretty incredibly memorable days exactly one year ago, back in September of 2019. So why the heck not??? Let’s take a little down day stroll back down memory lane shall we…!?!?!
Remember last September when Colorados did its best 10 year Miami Beach hurricane season swell impression. If you’re from Florida, you know exactly what I’m talking about, dont-cha! Jaja
It wasn’t that so long ago when we actually used to play this and perhaps even took it for granted. Now that it’s been well over 6 months since anyone’s even touched a volleyball, it goes to show how easy it is to miss the small things in life. Right???
Remember when I used to shoot from jungle like I was some kind of jungle spy…. anyone even wanna guess what break this is???
Remember last September when the river mouth had an actual barreling wave in it?
If I only knew that one year into the future from shooting my favorite beach saludos with my amigo Tony that it would be normal to say hello (safely from this distance) and I bet Tony also always knew about Corona… hence his infamous “Bird” wave! I think he knew…!!!! HAHA
Remember that one time Aura pulled a full on “Hand-lining fishing” maneuver while getting shacked?? Heck, remember when she even lived here??? Seem like forever since all of these fond memories.
Remember when the water looked like someone dumped a million gallons of toothpaste into the lineup here???
Who can forget this…. remember when the Oakley Surf Shop Challenge came to town (again) but this time in September of 2019.
and as always, they make our special little stretch of beach look like the 7 mile miracle stretch on the North Shore in the winter.
Who can remember, last September and the nice juicy swells we had?
Remember that time it was so green and lush here, it looked like a scene from “Gorillas in the Mist”…. ohhhh wait, this year has got any other year beat!!!
Last year there were so many flights coming and going, some surfers had to arrive with their own special private charters.
Actually this year, anyone wishing to come, literally has to book their own special private chartered flights… along with a mandatory 72 hour in advance COVID test going both ways.
There were only a select few on the planet unaffected by the pandemic. Whales were one of them and they actually were here again this year doing the same exact thing!
Mystery barrel surfers…… every year! However this year it all depended on where you got land locked. I’ll give you a little hint…. this was the best place on the planet to “be stuck in “!!!
Remember when it was a hot thing to teach your kitty how to surf! Only in Nicaragua! 🙂
Remember that time PC turned into a mini reverse Chope’s, and when Jason was slaying it???
No matter what goes on in the world… one thing is for certain. Nicaragua will always have some of the best sunsets on earth! FACT Check that Facebook!! JAJA
Ok my down day amigos…. I hope it was fun taking a little trip down memory lane today. Here’s to hoping tomorrow has better winds and waves or one or the other. See ya out there. Chao 4 now ~

Hey amigos! Welcome to Thursday’s surf report from Playa Colorado. This evening was very similar to yesterday. Arguably a touch smaller this evening, but mid-day had some decent sets.
