Somewhere in Nicaragua

NSR team player and all around one of the nicest people you’ll ever meet while you’re visiting Nicaragua Mr. Baldo! That is if you can catch up with him – he’s got a good sized and energized family, oh and one super cool cattle dog too) but when he’s not attending to his family duties or his what seems to be around the clock work hours, THIS is where he finds his solitude from all the days hard work. Yeah buddy!

And this is what the rights turned into when you paddled hard for them and got into one of them.

I’ve been shooting mostly the mornings (or late mornings – based around the higher tides) but today I had to take care of some stuffs so I had no choice other than to shoot in the late afternoon and it was near dead low tide. Josh here, LOVES the draining low tides. This enables him to get super duper shacked and it’s also not a big fan favorite of most of surfers here as it tends to sometimes shut down, but more importantly, it’s really gnarly and dangerous with the water only being a few feet deep if that and when there’s size of consequence, like today. . . you’ve gotta really know what you’re doing out there.

I can’t recall how many past days were forecast (and accurately too) in the 4-6 foot range. Here’s todays bump calling it at 5-7 (peeking around mid day at 6-8) with 3 separate combo swells all coming from between 187 to 221 degrees between 11 seconds up to 16 seconds.

Five to Seven feet and frothy! Hope everyone who came for this last batch of swell(s) all brought their mini step ups!

This is what a combo swell does for this place. Oh and I forgot to mention, aside from what looks like slight offshore, the winds were pretty much dead calm. Hence the very little texture to just about sheet glass on most waves.

John made the paddle out in what seemed like seconds. Here he is paddling into his first wave, hair still dry.

After a good amount of some tube time, check him squeezing his big well over 6ft body out of this clean glassy nugget!

Timmy ran down too, a little before John. That’s him on the “intro shot”, btw. If you were wondering what a nice tight close up shot of what those bombing perfect A-framing right sided ones looked like a little closer, well here ya go.

I know to always keep the trigger firing when Timmy surfs, because even though from this backside angle of the rights, the surfer goes missing behind all that exploding whitewater and there’s a 50/50 chance if it’s anyone else they’ll come out, let a lone come out and crush the ed section with a MASSIVE air like this one here. INSANE surfing Hermano!!!

And that’s a wrap for todays report. Hopefully if those rights are bombing tomorrow (when the light is more ideal for the rights) I think I’ll jump back on the late morning track and try and see how it’s looking and go from there.
