Somewhere in Nicaragua

I don’t think some of the folks on social media have appreciated the degree of hazard in the lineups here after the rivers blew open. We may not have crocodiles here, but watch out for the rolling logs while duck diving!

The surf was smaller today, but the sets still definitely had some size and open-face space to work with.

Quick! Rotate through that cutback before the double-up sections catches you! Onshore conditions aren’t considered to be as desirable as offshore barrels, but you do get the novelty effect of wacky sections getting thrown your way.

This guy gets the award for maneuver of the day! He perfectly timed and executed this clean straight air. To add to the aesthetic, his board has that brand new white glow.

Although there weren’t many “real” barrels this morning, I was glad the faces were still relatively clean for today’s surfers.

Onshore days are perfect for practicing your coping blasts and “teeing up”. The golf course will probably be closed for another day or two while the residual rain water clears, so that will leave the surf lineup as the only accessible tee-box.

So close to barreled haha! I like to make funny expressions as well when I’m getting shut out of sections and still riding XD I zoomed in on this guy’s face and he was smiling so he was enjoying himself here haha. That’s what it’s all about, especially when the conditions are sub-par. A serious approach is a quick ticket to frustration in marginal surf.

I spy… an elusive mini-tube! The short-interval swell was very shifty and erratic today, so it was hard to be in the correct position when these nuggets rolled through.

This guy actually ended up making this barrel, giving him the most, the best, and the only tube exit of the day! He was super deep and took one big drive off the bottom (seen here), then disappeared for a while. I continued to shoot until the barrel closed shut, then I stopped only for him to randomly burst out of the bottom part of the whitewatery corner. Congrats on bagging this one mate!

This photo pretty accurately portrays today’s conditions. Big walls, with chunky sections, and double-up’s forming just behind you.

An elusive right spitter that snuck South of everyone’s radars. Hopefully September brings us minute after minute spitters like this!

Textbook form on this guy’s roundhouse right in line with the camera man.

Another nice top turn from a fellow goofy foot ripper. His bright red rails add some extra flare to the lip-smack. It almost looks like he’s riding an “Eberly” surfboard, but I could be wrong about that.

Get on it frothers! I bet everyone is a bit stir crazy after yesterday’s non-stop rain. I think most of the resident surfers here in Iguana will make the conservative decision to wait for the conditions or water clarity to improve before getting back in the water, so that just means more waves for those of you visiting here haha!
