Somewhere in Nicaragua

Hayden was one of the five or so surfers out this morning. His timing and entry were great on this left drainer.

The crowd was very thin while I was shooting so there were plenty of riderless waves. The lefts were relatively hollow and open compared to the rights today.

Lock in “por la vista!”

Wave selection is key at low-tide Colorados. Rip currents and runners, but every now and again a ripped up wave will be good like this one.

This was the one good rivermouth right I saw all morning. I don’t think anyone would’ve been close to where this one hit, but if they had been then they could’ve made an epic barrel!

Hayden locking into a blue, beautiful, vibrant right. The lack of sand and whitewater on the wave face indicate that it may have been the first wave of the set.

These are the lefts that Lance, John, and I have been chasing the past few days. We’ve etched nabbed a few keepers, but it’s always tough to see one run off like this from the beach.

Now for a few highlight frames from the barrel of the day.

This guy was flying, and deep, on this throaty left drainer.

He continued to weave through the dark tunnel despite the somewhat ripped-up surface of the water from a small rip-current that was forming.

He made what was close to a five second barrel, then sealed the deal with an end section smack.

That wraps up Wednesday’s action from Colorados. My summary of today’s conditions after being in the water most of the afternoon was that there were long lulls, but there would be windows where it would turn on throughout the day. Unfortunately it felt like the size began to drop this evening, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the swell hangs around for more fun tomorrow.
