Nicaragua Surf Report for Monday, January 01, 2024

Josh S

Welcome to the first surf report of 2024 from Hacienda Iguana! Today’s action was at Panga Drops and the wind was surprisingly mellow.

Abort! Abort! Sometimes if you’re an intermediate and faced with a steep drop, then you’ve gotta abandon ship and pull the plug.

Josh S

Uh oh! He barely missed the barrel on this right. His pop-up was late hence missing his window to lock-in.

Josh S

This young intermediate surfer was playing conservatively today and only catching the mellower waves. There’s nothing wrong with this approach at all when you’re learning as you’ll have more time to think about what you are doing on the wave.

Lucy with the bottom turn of the day. This was seriously textbook.

Surprisingly, there were very few people at French Fries despite some fun waist high sets.

This guy was dominating the middle peak right. He had the best read on where to sit in the line-up and therefore got the most rides.

Josh S

Meanwhile it looks like these two brothers ended up exploring the “take it to the sand/beach” option. I wonder if they practice Jiu-Jitsu or wrestling?

Josh S

Not only did Lucy get the best bottom turn of the day, but she also got the best top turn of the day. She did well to find this set wave and to stick in the pocket through the ride and turn.

Josh S

How the tables turn! We went from a vacant Panga Drops yesterday to a vacant Villas Iguanas today. The wind was forecasted to have been nuclear today, but we were blessed with light winds. Hopefully this trend with the wind persists for the next few days. Cheers guys and have a good one.
