I found the Sirenitas Surf Club at the beach. They usually surf at Beginners Bay, but with the small conditions, they decided it was time for a new challenge, explore other waves, and Panga Drops is the perfect place.
Sirenitas Surf Club is a social enterprise inspiring and empowering girls through surfing, swimming, and education. Sirenitas Surf Club began in March 2017 with the intention of creating a safe space for young girls to explore their inner power in their local beach break. Surfing became a space to explore, connect and grow but most importantly, have fun!
The program has impacted the life of 20+ joyous, adventurous, fear-defying girls. Some of the Sirenitas have been with the project for over 5 years and are competing internationally in Tae Kwan Do, become the first to go to college in their families, and fearlessly taking waves on their own. Through the surf therapy and life planning program, Sirenitas continues to empower girls to take up space, dream big, but most importantly, how to make their own dreams come true.

All the girls, thanks for the program, learned how to swim and then surf, and now they are catching their own waves.
The waves were small and fun, but the wind made it dfificult to catch them.
At the beginning all the girls were a little scared, being the first time they are out here at Panga Drops, so they stayed all together… until the first set came and they all realized it was dangerous to stay too closed.
There were a few other surfers in the water, when they saw the group of girls, they moved around until find and empty spot to find their own waves.
Here is one of the instructors catching one of the set waves.
I’m going to suggest the instructors to teach the girls some of the ethics of surfing 🙂
She didn’t even noticed there was somebody else going for that wave.
It’s great to see local girls enjoying the energy of the ocean the way we all have been enjoying it for years. They were stocked to be out there at the famous Panga Drops.
Looks like not only the Sirenitas need some ethic classes.
As you can see, the wind was creating several peaks one in front of the others, specially going right.
I hope to see these girls one day surfing by themselves, without the Sirenitas support… that’s when they will graduate from the program.
It is great to see social programs like Sirenitas Surf Club doing an impact in the life of the local youth, specially girls. Come back to Panga Drops any time! Saludos,
RECENT REPORTS
Hey amigos! Welcome to Tuesday’s surf report from Panga Drops. This lady either ended up a bit later than anticipated or misunderstood what it means to get barreled haha! I’ve got to give her credit for looking at this wave though. You don’t know if you don’t go (or at least look at going).
