Nicaragua Surf Report for Wednesday, January 17, 2024

Josh S

Hey everyone! Wednesday morning’s surf report from Panga Drops and French Fries coming your way. As of yesterday evening, the wind was forecasted to be crazy today, but the waves were really clean and rippable. Windguru better recalibrate!

Josh S

This guy in the barrel, along with Dave Lovekin, were the stars of today’s report. The waves were still fairly small today so he did well to tuck into this barrel.

Here’s the barrel rider from the previous photo chucking some whitewater slush on rail.

Josh S

He’s at it again on this little right. His body mechanics are really solid here. He’s on a small board in small waves, so he’s doing well here at staying relatively compact / low, while still being light over his board / feet. Maintaining and generating speed is the name of the game for performance shortboards in small waves.

Chop-hop!

The easier and more straightforward play when the waves are small is to grab a long board. Big board, big reward!

Dave Lovekin surfing top to bottom all the way from the outside peak of French Fries.

Josh S

It takes more patience to sit outside and wait for the bigger waves at French Fries, but it can be worth it, as you can then link together two to four turns like Dave did on this long right.

Josh S

Although the rights are much better than the lefts at French Fries, you can often have a peak to yourself if you decide to sit further North and target the lefts.

Josh S

Clean Panga Drops is so fun to surf because the face is smooth and wide open for you to carve across. Paint your line!

That wraps up today’s action from Pangas / French Fries. The waves were quite a bit better than I expected this morning. Tomorrow we’re forecasted to have larger swell and crazy wind, but we’ll see about the wind as it didn’t really manifest this morning. Have a good Wednesday and see you tomorrow.
