Nicaragua Surf Report for Sunday, January 22, 2023

Brian Scott

Happy Aloha Sunday surfing community!! We had our first gloomy(ish) grey day in a while. But todays surfing Sunday Funday had a lot of “surfing” stuffs going on. One being the massive swell (and still growing Eddie Aikau) contest that’s been going off - this is like our (surfers) Super Bowl! However, what makes it so special is it can only run when the “Bay Calls the Day” ie. the swell is deemed perfect by Hawaiian culture standards and the green light can only be considered a GO from the Aikau family members. HOwever, sadly, on a somber note, which is maybe why the whether was so dismal today, yet the waves and conditions were so dreamy AND the fact that today is the first time the Eddie has ran in 7 years, we lost one of the most influential surfing pioneers today, Pat Curren may your Rest in Peace ~ moe i ka maluhia!

So on to todays report, and by no means nothing compared to the massively giant waves being surfed by the madmen on Hawaii’s North Shore right now, today out at the reef, it was nothing but pure dream like surf conditions!

Clean, buttery and the perfect and only reason I can think of taking a moment away from the screen watching the rarest contest on the planet and going for a quick little surf in pristine conditions.

A little schwack attack, taking full on advantage of the perfect waves on tap for the late afternoon session.

Hahaha, shoots, even Colorados was throwing down a little swell down that a way too! What a spectacular day, for January.

Roger was even out there charging in his own way!

Brian Scott

Yeaaaaah BUDDY!!! I saw him going for a couple cover ups. . . and this was still pretty high tide. I bet tomorrow on the low low, it will be barreling if we’re lucky enough to get these same (non-windy) conditions.

A little aerial attack, taking full on advantage of the perfect waves on tap for the late afternoon session. It was like surfings groundhog’s day out there with how epic the waves and surfing was going down.

I couldn’t help (actually I don’t think I’ve ever posted a non-real surfing pic) but in this case since the Eddie is running today, I came across this incredible painting by Brazilian artist, Hilton Alves of this NUTSO vision and painting of Waimea Bay. You can check out some of his crazy latented art here: Hilton Alves ART

So that’s a wrap. . . I have to get back to watching the massive waves and surfing, like I said, it’s like our Super Bowl! BUT, for now I’ll leave you with what Turtle said best . . . “ "Shocktothabodakazanothinbradafrada!"” Jaaa ~
