We’ve got a lot of action out here today, so let’s get right into it. Before we start, NSR would like to give a big shout out to our generous sponsors back in the US who help by donating merchandise for the prizes. From St. Augustine, FL – The Surf Station, The Pit Surf Shop and Blue Sky Surf Shop – From Miami, FL – The Shack and also Steve, the Volcolm guy. Thanks very much for helping to make this event possible! Now back to the action. This is Roque.
Today we ran the semi-finals and finals for all 5 categories: National, International, Juniors, Longboard and Women. Even though I whipped out the headstand, it wasn’t enough to make it to the Longboard finals.
That honor, went to JJ, who also won the international division. Check out the coffin drop-in on the close-out.
The women’s divison was won by Brooks from CR who was ripping…even though there were obstacles to avoid at times.
From left to right, this is Brooks, Ashley (posing?), Kristen (nice smile) and the other girl. Congrats Ladies!
Here’s a shot of the Bad Boy, Gerardo, who also made the finals.
By far, the crowd favorites were the Juniors division. These little guys were ripping today. This is Rex, Roque’s younger brother, who rapidly catching up the the older guys.
This is Rex again, who won the Juniors (and also placed 3rd in the Nationals!) Great job Rex!
Here is Augusto, who surprised a few people and made the finals today.
He surprised even more people when he WON! Congrats Augusto – I guess we can stop calling you “Luis’ brother” now.
Overall, the contest was a huge success. We had two days full of action and surprises. All the competitors who made the finals got a bag full of goodies from our sponsors including surf dvd’s, leashes, t-shirts, wax, stickers, hats, backpacks, sunglasses, watches and even a dvd player. There was also a raffle for a new surfboard (won by a youngster who really needed it) and t-shirt, water bottle and sticker give aways all weekend. Here a shot of the competitors.
We’d like to give a special thanks to Ricardo from Sands Surf and Beach Stores in Managua for organizing this event. The consensus was that this was the best contest ever in Nicaragua. Thanks Ricardo!
