Nicaragua Surf Report for Thursday, March 29, 2018

Javier Baldovinos

Hello everyone, this is Baldo reporting from Santana beach, Tola. Today is Thursday of Semana Santa (Easter Week), which means that everyone in the country is full-on on Holiday mode… and it’s great to see that the waves decided to come right on time for that!

Javier Baldovinos

I went first to check the pool at the Rancho Santana’s Club House. There were a lot of families enjoying the sun and the pool area, kids in the water, parents having drinks outside.

Javier Baldovinos

From the pool area you can check out the surf, see if it’s pumping or not, if it’s worth it to put the empty glass on the table and go surfing, or just ask for another drink and wait for the swell to fully hit tomorrow. (hopefully you won’t be too hangover).

Javier Baldovinos

Even though the swell is just starting to show, there are already some good waves coming in, and plenty of peaks to surf.

Javier Baldovinos

If you don’t have kids (or your kids are old enough), instead of being in the pool you can play Bocce Ball or Horse Shoe while having a drink and at the same time checking out the waves.

Javier Baldovinos

The tide was starting to get low so some of the vacationers were going for a walk on the reef, exploring and splashing the tide pools all around them.

Javier Baldovinos

Sometimes this angle it’s kind of tricky, it doesn’t show you exactly what is going on at the surf, so I went down to the beach for a better view.

Javier Baldovinos

Once on the sand, right in front of the peaks the story seemed a little bit different… the waves looked way better than before, a little bit bigger and with a better shape.

Javier Baldovinos

Lefts of rights, they were working really well today. Probably tomorrow it’s going to be better!

Javier Baldovinos

The waves were not that hollow but I saw a few barrels on the biggest sets.

Javier Baldovinos

But there were plenty of faces to shred and this guy was tearing them apart.

Javier Baldovinos

Throwing buckets on every turn.

Javier Baldovinos

Without losing control of the situation.

Javier Baldovinos

Here is a local with a vertical attack to the lip (I always forgets this guy’s name! shame on me).

Javier Baldovinos

Once in a while some random waves managed to find the right angle and the right bounce off the rock to show the potential of First Peak… most of the times nobody was in the right position to get that hollow first section on time, having to take the waves on the shoulder.

Javier Baldovinos

The shoulder allowed surfers to hit the lip 2 or 3 times before it closed out on the shallow part.

Javier Baldovinos

Well, it’s time to go, my ride just arrived so I need to put the camera away, grab a beer, and go enjoy the rest of the “Jueves Santo”, Salud!!
