Nicaragua Surf Report for Saturday, April 22, 2017

Hello everybody and Happy Earth Day! This is Hotsticks logging on with some morning shots from a nearby point. Check them out amigos!!

Find that comfy spot in your seat… We have some fun shots to show you guys. Disfruta!

Today’s ripper was Derek Rotzinger. Him and his crew boated in from the nearby town and were shredding. Derek, we're going to "share the love" on the report today.

Verena, I can see why you love that face!! Stache too for the record…

As for my crew, I came in with Josh LePell. He gave me a call late last night and said “hey, wanna shoot the report with some friends tomorrow morning?!?!” Tough question Josh… let me think about that one…

Josh’s buddy Danny came along. Being a goofy footer, he was loving this left point!!

Powerful bottom turns, going vertical up the face, and busting the fins out... Yep, Danny surfs well!

And what about his lady Paula?! Living a little north of us, they don’t make it down to this spot all the time. After this morning, I have a feeling they will be coming back sooner rather than later.

All smiles and 100% stoked for her first time here!!!

Craig is Josh’s good friend from SLO and is visiting through the weekend. Calm, cool, composed, and cruising for his first time here too.

Ok, let’s show off a few fun photos. HINT: I swam out farther to shoot into the slabby section. Do you see it starting to work on that wave?

If there’s a barrel, Derek finds it. I was a little shocked (and concerned) that he was surfing a purely rippable soft left the other day.

Well, he filled his tank back up this morning. Derek, it’s always fun to surf with you bro!

Tim, AKA Unidentified Hat Guy, found the section too. How’s that view of Tim, Danny?

Did I mention Tim has a powerful rail game too? He’s a well rounded surfer born for a wave that offers heavy and soft sections. Maybe that’s why he lives right up the way?

Rob Dull, owner of Hotel Brio, is the third muchacho. He’s been surfing this wave for a long time so he knew exactly where to slip in for the tube.

Rob is actually in the process of selling Brio. Maybe it’s because the residents, cough cough TIM, are mean and spray you in the line up…

Chances are that you’ve stayed with us, you’ve been helped by Carly Chivers, one of our reservation agents. When she isn’t helping guests plan their trip, she is stylishly cruising in the pocket.

When she isn’t doing her NSR work, her and India are running Papaya Wellness. If you’re looking for all inclusive surfing and yoga retreats here, hit them up! They’ve cornered that market and been stoking guests out for a handful of years.

And where does Bo fit in to the picture? After running a nonprofit in Gigante for a number of years, he has changed gears and has been selling real estate. Plenty more real estate down the line on this 200 yard wave.

Bam!! Number #3 of I don’t know how many turns he cranked out on this one. A huge thank you to Kevin Malone for taking Bo through his back rehab and getting him in the water again!!

I’m convinced this is one of the funnest waves to water shoot. Either your friends are unleashing huge turns or setting a line in the barrel as they shoot by you. Life could be worse…

Josh was pushing the limits. This is the fast section that breaks in a couple feet of rocky urchiny water. Buttttt he stuck it and made it through! Yeah Yoshi!!!

Ryan Zavala had a pretty similar idea. Him and Natalie are building a sick house here and his family will be a great addition to the community.

Craig said he’s had a killer trip and scored great waves here so he said he will be back in town soon again! Craig, you bring more Snickers and I’ll show you around some more waves. Sound good?

I can hit up El Capitan Edwin to tour us around again. How sick of a job is that: drive a boat and surf the waves with your clients?! Sign me up…

I could sit here and post the other 30 sick photos I have but it’s getting late on this fine Saturday afternoon. It’s time to finish to finish up to see what’s going on at Sidebar and Don Eloy’s then Mag Rock later. Plenty going on here: swell wise and nightlife.

But since today is Derek Day, I want to throw up one more shot of him. Lesther, Carlos, and Oscar can have their report days the other 6 days of the week.

I’ll leave you with my favorite water shot of the day. Mother Nature showed off a few spitters for Earth Day!! Ok everybody, have a fun safe Saturday evening and stay tuned through the weekend! We’ll keep you posted with more fun waves. Hasta luego primos!!
