Nicaragua Surf Report for Saturday, April 29, 2006

OK, so today we have the second National Surf Contest being run out here at Playa Santana. We've got over 60 competitors from San Juan Del Sur, Limon, Las Salinas, Masachapa and Las Penitas. There are tents set up all over the beach, there's plenty of food and drinks and the music is blasting from the DJ stand. It's on!

We've got slightly overhead sets and offshore winds out here today and both peaks are working. This is Elvis over on the wedge left-hander.

The San Juan crew was out in force - taking the bus up here early this morning and camping out on the beach. They get a bit crazy at times but they're a solid group to have around.

This is Gerardo, smooth as silk and advancing through today's first two rounds. The quarterfinals start tomorrow.

Here is Luis, flying high. He also advanced through to tomorrow.

This is Roque putting on a solid performance today and advancing to the quarters tomorrow.

And of course we have Rex, star grom of Nica, advancing as well.

Check out Channel 11 interviewing Rex after his heat. This kid can surf.

Here is a nice shot of Oliver - who surfed well but did not advance. Tough call which could have gone either way.

Meanwhile, Roberto was all over the beach today, catching photos of everthing.

Yes, including the chicks on the beach too.

Local talent by Roberto.

Let's not forget the local Limon boys, who were out ripping the home break. This is Mario, advancing to tomorrow's quarters.

Here is a nice shot of Jamil from Las Salinas. Jamil also made it through to tomorrow.

We don't know this guy, but Roberto got a nice shot of him. Tomorrow's action is shaping up to be pretty good so make sure you check back to see who wins.

Oh yeah, before we forget - we wanted to say goodbye to our latest NSR Beach House guests who enjoyed overhead surf and offshore winds for 10 days in a row. Glad to have you down guys! Come back anytime.

This is a shot off the front lawn the morning they left - so surfed out that it didn't even matter. Head high, offshore and nobody out.
