It’s safe to say the swell arrived! As the day progressed, the waves picked up more and more. Yeah, how was your Sunday?!
Barrels barrels barrels and a couple more barrels. Though, some of them were tough to make and ran too fast.
Being a regular footer, I like this direction. Besides, goofy footers get to enjoy every Nicaraguan reef/point on their frontside…
Josh Springfield was the only local on it this morning. The other local boys were at the contest at Jiquiliste. Stay tuned for that update later (maybe even two updates if you’re lucky).
If you haven’t already figured out why Josh’s Instagram name is @joshhavepigdog, this picture may provide some insight.
This morning was marked by the right freight trains. On the other side of the monster rip, a few pretty lefts squeaked through untouched.
David Huffman from Casita Rio was on it early. Now that the winds are light offshore all day, you can hit it early, late morning, mid day, afternoon, OR early evening. Yes, we do appreciate those offshores…
His travel buddy Gavin Noble joined him too. When the tide was a little higher, these barrels were tough to find. Sometimes they were wide open and sometimes they ran too fast. No worries, those muchachos are here for another week and another swell!
I hope this random surfer makes @nicaslams later!!!!!
Look, I know it’s Monday morning and trust me, I know it’s pumping here. Take a couple extra minutes to click that vacation rentals tab. But, do yourself a favor, and take that right instead of that left.
Switching gears, I hopped over to the surf competition at Playa Jiquiliste. Today was the first tournament of year so everybody was out and stoked. Here is the Astillero Surf Club supporting their amigo Guapo in the quarter finals.
Did you know there is also a women’s bracket? Here is Val Resano about to show you why women deserve a spot in the tournament.
Her, and her two younger sisters, have many more years of bright surfing. Who knows, they might be in the QS before they have a driver’s license!
We might have some more action to show you guys later but I want to end with a shot of the Heathers, Christina, and company, hanging out in the pool for now. Soon, we’ll get Safari, Soleil, Charlotte, Maxi, and Vivi in the women’s tournament brackets! It’s almost time for the sun to set so grab a cocktail and hang out outside with everybody!
RECENT REPORTS
Welcome to 2025 everyone! Happy New Year! Josh back behind the lens for the next few days. I basically pulled an all-nighter and woke up early to surf after the late night fiesta. The lineup was empty even at 8:00am and the waves were fun. I surfed then took photos.

Hello and welcome back for a gloomy addition of your Thursday NSR surf report. The morning started with the first rain storm of the year. It was coming down pretty hard at first light.
