We’ve also had our first handful of “heavy” rains this year. While shooting I always had a Plan-B in mind, to run for cover with the camera if the rain reached shore. Luckily it didn’t rain this morning and the sun peaked out for about half of my time shooting.
I’ll open up the report’s surf action with Yuji blasting his tail-free. Atta-boy Yuj-er! These sharp off-the-lip blasts were today’s popular maneuver.
This fella surfed down the beach, further South, and had a peak to himself. He was getting some nice waves under the radar. About half of the surfers out there today seemed to be leveraging the “copings” offered up by the onshore wind.
Chris McKinley was hunting down the best lefts on offer today, doing us goofy-footers proud. Here he is demonstrating the “sniff the pit and slash the lip” technique. I saw Chris get a few solid tubes last swell, but now he is showing us that he is a force to be reckoned with on rail as well.
Another goofy-foot hero got one of the bigger set waves today and decided to use his speed on rail. This is a high scoring turn in my opinion! Speed, power (driving his back foot down through the turn on rail), and flow (How stylish is his posture in this frame?!)
Lucy has been logging an impressive number of hours in the water as of late. I’ve seen her wave selection, timing, and turns improve considerably since her first few sessions at Colorados. Way to stay disciplined Lucy, it’s paying off!
Right when you thought that nobody got barreled today… Haha! The artificial surfboard cover-up! Luckily our turquoise rider was well prepared for the inbound surfboard, and successfully managed to avoid decapitation. Way to duck and cover-up!
Our Nicaraguan shredder from Gigante was taking full advantage of the finicky winds to take flight. Up, up, and AWAY!
To close out today’s action we have two back-side floaters. These are some of my favorite maneuvers to close out my back-side waves, as you can carry so much speed through the move.
Guido, from Argentina, is back in town! Looks like he’s been surfing regularly back in Argentina, judging by his unique style on this left. He’s got his arms spread wide and head tucked super low which exaggerates the downward movement and completion of the floater. 10/10 for style points on this one amigo!
Thanks for checking for June’s first day of surf here at Colorados! It looks like the wind is going to misbehave (onshore) over the next week or so, but I expect the waves to be relatively clean in the morning before the wind picks up. While the surf isn’t epic when the wind is onshore here, it can still be fun and punchy enough to pull off some flashy turns and airs. Catch you guys tomorrow if you tune-in to see more shredding from paradise!
RECENT REPORTS
Hey amigos! Welcome to Wednesday’s surf report from Colorados. The waves were smaller today, but the sets still had a bit of size. The conditions were very clean. The smoothest and most well groomed waves that I saw this week.

Welcome friends to the new month of June! Like clockwork and as expected, our dearly beloved favorite wave of the Emerald Coast turned onshore and will be like this (so the forecast says) for about the next 9 or 10 days (if you’re counting today as the first day), which it literally is! Get ready..
Welcome back for the Tuesday surf report. Brian back at it looking for the best window of opportunity for the best photos of the day. Today started out with a lot of ripped out fast moving current and a lot of water moving around. Besides there not being any surfers out, until the later afternoon,..
