When I got down to the playa to shoot with some of my amigos visiting from South America, everything seemed to look to be pretty normal for our average after noon session.

Waves were still on the smaller side (that is until we receive our new swell which should hopefully and maybe come in a little early tomorrow – crossing fingers!)

Did you know we have real live mermaids here in Nicaragua? They come from the sea on days like today and transform so they can walk; but if you don’t believe me, come here to see for yourselves! It’s amazing!

This is about where things turned around for our afternoon session.

That’s right, we were about to get dumped on by a nice little rain squall that was coming from inland.

The winds tend to blow pretty hard (northerly), making for this trippy looking cross-offshore mixed up storm surf.

I will say though, it sure helps with the effects of how big your turns and the spray looks.

See what I mean!

As windy looking as it is, the rain and winds kinda help glass everything off eventually once the rains subside.

That and of course if the sun decides to pop back out, it’s a Big Bonus!

Magic hour lighting anyone??? Bueller…. Bueller??

When I said “lets see what kind of funky weather and waves we had out there today to help kick off the weekend” I wasn’t kidding at all.

Check out how hard the winds are blowing the foam on the inside section here. Or how about them whitecaps out the back? There’s a plenty of rain coming and very soon!

If you’re asking yourself, ok, so where are you posted up to stay dry throughout all this wet weather? Wouldn’t you like to know?? This is years of shooting here and knowing where to run to when it’s necessary, like today.

Ok, so to clarify from todays report; yes we have mermaids, no we don’t have unicorns, but we do have insane rainbows at the end of every good shower. Nicaragua is definitely a place of mystery and majestic beauty all at the same time. This is my Aloha Friday surf report and I’m sticking to it! See ya mañana mi amigos ~
RECENT REPORTS

Hey everyone! Josh back behind the lens for the next few days. Welcome to Wednesday’s surf report from Colorados. The swell head steady from yesterday, but unfortunately the wind got on it by 10:30am. There was an afternoon rain shower and I came back around sunset after the rain to find that it had cleaned..
FROM THE ARCHIVES

Hello NSR followers, today we are reporting from Jiquelite beach. The conditions were as expected, smaller, windy (onshore) and mushy. It was probably a good day to find some dry shade, relax on the sand, and feel the breeze.
