Nicaragua Surf Report for Thursday, June 13, 2024

Josh S

Hi everyone. Welcome to Thursday's surf report from Playa Colorado. The wind was fairly light and favorable again early this morning. The sets were a little slow at high tide when I took photos, but the energy and consistency increased closer to mid-tide later in the morning.

Josh S

I can personally attest to the fact that the insider double-ups have had way better shape than the sets the past few days. They would suck up more on the sandbar.

This chica was one of the MVP’s of this morning’s surf session. She caught plenty of waves and I’m pretty sure I saw her smiling on each of her waves.

Josh S

Wide turns on the school bus haha! Surfing longboards on rail takes good anticipation and patience through the turn as you can’t whip the board through the turn. You gotta set it on rail and bear with it.

Josh S

She was definitely dialed in this morning. This is still the same wave and she worked her way through three or four separate sections all the way to the shoreline.

Josh S

Alright let’s move onto some of the shortboarders too! A nice sharp backside snap from this rider. Check out how light he got over his feet during this turn.

Josh S

The chica wasn’t just picking off the peeling lefts at the North peak. She even charged a few steeper rights that sucked up more on the sandbar.

Josh S

Meanwhile all the way down at the South peak river-mouth right this young gun was ripping through a few turns.

Josh S

The waves were definitely a bit softer today than yesterday. So the folks on longer gear were better able to post-up in cruise control mode across some rolling faces.

Josh S

A new stretch! The “touch your heels” instead of “touch your toes”.

Josh S

This surfer testing how low he can go! His general idea is correct here. He wants to shoot down and around the section, so compressing and shifting slightly over his front foot to drop down the face with speed is the right move.

Josh S

After making the section, he executed a smooth bottom turn with good body mechanics.

Josh S

Watch out! This lady shredder unwinding with some serious force on this closing section.

One last river-mouth bender with a little guy to close today’s report. We lucked out again today with the conditions. Tomorrow’s forecast is calling for a type of swell I’ve never really seen here. Surfline is calling for 7ft @ 8 seconds by mid-day tomorrow coming from the WSW. I don’t really even know if this swell direction will wrap into Iguana’s beach or if Surfline will even be correct haha. I will say that when we observe funky and extremely strange swell and wind forecasts then there is a fair chance that we get some thunderstorms that accompany the wild conditions. Anyways, I’ll bring y’all tomorrow’s action unless it rains literally all day (sorry I gotta protect the camera gear haha).
