Nicaragua Surf Report for Sunday, June 20, 2010

What's up folks?  This is Pancho bringing you the Sunday Surf Report from Southern Nicaragua.  Our recent pulse of long interval swell is winding down and we've got a bit of a storm pattern sitting over us right now.  It was a rainy one today and we waited until the afternoon to head out to the beach.  We caught a little window in between showers.  Waves are running head-high or so on sets and it's a bit jumbled up, but with light offshores and super clear, warm water.  It was still fun and with only a few guys out we had no complaints.  Check it out.

This is our new friend Travis from Daytona, FL, getting into one of the few barrels out there today.  Good to see you Travis!

Something most people don't know is that this Thursday is "Dia de San Juan Del Sur" and we celebrate the birthday of our small town.  The celebration started this weekend and will go all the way through Thursday.  They are putting on parades, rodeos, concerts and all kinds of fun stuff so come on down to SJDS to check out the festivities.  This is a shot of the horse parade through the streets of SJDS.

The other big event for this week is a beauty pagent to see who gets named the "Queen of SJDS".  This year the lovely Sevilla was selected from a group of about 30 contestants.  They compete in a variety of categories such as - talent, bikini and evening gown, just like we do for Miss USA.  Congrats Sevilla!

While everybody was partying in town, the good times also flowed over to the beach.  Here's a group of tourist girls getting their Sunday afternoon drink on!  Chewy is gone now but I know he'd give you at least one "thumbs-up" for that!

Back to the surf action, here's a shot Miguel took of me coming off the top of a close-out section.  I've been riding a lot of different boards lately and can't seem to get back into my old shortboards.  Maybe it's because I'm getting older - I'm turning 40 next weekend (yikes!).  I seem to enjoy riding shorter and wider boards these days - like the  5'8" Super Pickle seen here.

I think one of the coolest things about Nicaragua is how consistent our surf is.  We just had a pretty good run of waves and today, by most standards, should be an off day - it was stormy, it was rainy, the swell died, the tide was wrong, etc...and we still had fun waves coming through.  You can literally surf every day here if you wanted.  That's why its such a great place to come on a surf trip.

We'll end today's report with a shot of our other new friend from FL.  I forgot your name so I won't take a bad guess at it - we'll just leave it with your photo.  We've got a big, short interval swell showing for the next few days and that usually means stormy conditions.  Check back and see what happens with us!

Before we sign off for today, I wanted to let everyone know we just picked up a killer, brand new, 5 bedroom, rental home inside Rancho Santana.  The house is called Cinco Banditos and it's easily one of the nicest places available.  In addition to being located inside Rancho Santana and a stones throw from the areas best surf breaks, Cinco Banditos also comes fully equipped with:

1)  Automatic back-up power that runs EVERYTHING, even A/C units.
2)  Private Swimming Pool
3)  All the amenities like:  Flat screen TV, wireless internet, ping-pong table, full service housekeeping

You get the picture, the place is awesome and we have a scaled rate system depending on how many people you have in your group (house sleeps up to 9).

This house is especially good for larger groups, couples or people who are looking for a more comfortable surf trip.

If you are thinking of coming down to visit us, ask about Casa Cinco Banditos!
