This is a shot of the beach showing you what was happening on land. There were a lot of people hanging out and goofing around. This is Ryan Briggs from Jacksonville Florida who came with some of his Billabong friends. Here is Briggs livin it up Flor de Cana style!
The first shot of the day goes to Junior “La Juliana” Martinez. Junior and his brothers were out there just dominating. Here he is caught in action cruzing though one of his many barrels during the contest.
Darwin “El Brujo” was also representing his home break. He was surfing really well today, like always. Here he is doing his signature backside snap.
The last shot of the Santana locals is Mario “El Danino” Martinez who decided to go out there and represent his break by winning all of his heats. This is how he did it, barrels in every heat. Nice work buddy!
JJ was out there showing everyone that after you live here for over 11 years you pretty much tell the wave what you want it to do. Here he is dictating a sweet barrel during one of his heats.
This is our friend Cesar “Boquita de Ronco” Amador who was surfing really well today. Here he is really laying into this right. He said his favorite thing about contests was not that he gets to surf with his friends, but that there is always a ton of girls hanging out on the beach.
Tony “El Mameluco el Tuco” who is surf coach for the Nicaragua National Team went out there to show all of his students just how to get barreled at the first peak here at Santana. He was doing a great job today making sure the contest went smoothly.
Luis “La Baloy” was out there representing the San Juan del Sur crew. Here he is in the air with only one foot on the board, but believe or not he landed it. I asked him about it later and he assured me that he was in control the whole time.
Oliver “El Montito” was gonna surf in the contest today, but his stomach took control and he decided to eat in his truck then take a nap instead. No, but seriously “El Monito was killing it in the water and did really well in the contest.
Everyone was out there surfing real hard and trying a lot difficult maneuvers, so there was a whole lot of wipeouts. Here is three shots of our buddies just getting worked!
Rex “La Bestia” Calderon was out there showing everyone how we do it in San Juan. Here he is throwing some buckets with the fins out the back. “La Bestia” was stoked to be able to test his surfing ability against he fellow Nicaraguan and Gringo surfers.
Jeff “El Mujeriego/Magnum” Barden was out there surfing in the national in the international division. This is the barrel he got to advance him to the semifinal tomorrow. He was having a great day today hanging out on the beach with three of his ladies.
Augusto “La Gaviota” Chamorro is caught here up close with a solid backside snap. He was stoked to be out there surfing with all of friends, pushing each other to improve their surfing.
We had some interesting activity on the beach today. We actually got picture of a local pirate dragging around his hairless bodied monkey. Believe it or not this was before there were any empty bottles of Tona!
Roque “Balboa” was out there, like always, just tearing it up. Here he is dropping right into the barrel on this left.
The second action eating shot goes to Javier “El Dragon” Baldo who is the president of the Nicaraguan National Surf Team. Here he is taking a little break from his presidential duties to load up with some sustenance so he can enough energy for the rest of the day.
This is Angelo “La Guacha” on a left in one of the first heats of the morning. It’s a pretty sick shot showing the sunrise and most of the beach.
“Come Pan” our dedicated employee went out there on his day off to get some sick water shots. Here is a sweet looking empty peak that rolled through with nobody on it. Thanks for your hard work “Come Pan”, You my boy Blue!
Alright that’s all we got for the day. It was a long fun day and we got to get to bed so we can get to the beach early to finish up the contest. The waves are supposed to drop off a little more, but it should still be fun. Good luck to all the surfers tomorrow! Check back!
