Somewhere in Nicaragua

Hey there folks and welcome to the Sunday surf report in Southern Nicaragua. We’ve got a beautiful day out here today – light offshore winds, clear and sunny skies and fun waves running about chest to head high. We decided to take the boat out today and mix in a little spearfishing with the surf. We’ve got a good crew today including: Codo manhandling the wheel, Canada “NachoMama” Ben from the Happy House, Carlos “jellyfish kisser” Caliente and your’s truly, Pancho Sanchez. Check it out…

We waited for the right tide and headed to one of our favorite little beach breaks. When we arrived, we found uncrowded peaks like this. Special thanks to Carlos “Jellyfish Kisser” Caliente for taking the time to work the water camera today.

Canada Ben was the MAN today – always in the right place at the right time and taking off on the biggest and heaviest set waves.

Here’s a cool shot – Although Codo looks like he’s slotted behind me and I’m burning him on the shoulder to get on camera, he was actually telling me to go ahead and share the wave with him. I swear he was.

Here’s “NachoMama” Canada Ben grabbing a nice set wave again. Notice the powerful stance as he sets up the next section. Undoubtedly, NachoMama’s agility has been refined from years of playing hockey in the arctic tundra.

One the way back home, we ran into some big schools of fish and some clear water. It was too good to resist so we jumped in with our spears to see what we could get. The ocean was alive with all kinds of fish in the clear waters below the boat: Jacks, Dorado and even a couple of Billfish (we are still arguing as to whether they were Marlin or Sailfish). In fact, there were so many fish that Carlos Caliente swam straight into a huge jellyfish and kissed it’s tentacles with his lips. Can you see it right there on the left corner? The rest of it wrapped around his neck. Ouch!

Well, we saw two Dorado and a quick shot with the speargun didn’t hold. Damn! That would have been a great dinner. At least we didn’t go home empty handed – this fish is called a Urel.

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a great Fourth! Saturday’s report is coming your way from Colorados as per usual. It was smaller today, but very shreddable. Still a few tubitos too.

Happy 4th of July! The size of the surf dropped notably today. There were still good sets, but patience was key (again). Hard to believe there were no takers on this one!

Hey amigos! Welcome to Thursday’s surf report from Playa Colorado. I saw some of the biggest sets of the year today. There were epic moments, but it was still a bit slow between the high quality waves.

Smaller waves and light offshores today at Maderas. It’s about waist to chest high and mushy – a good day for beginners out here. We’ve never seen so many chick surfers. Here is Lisa from FL.
