POPOYO
Hello everyone, welcome to another big day of surfing in Nicaragua! The swell is still pumping so I went to the best spot when it’s this big, the famous Popoyo. Check it out.
The waves at Popoyo were really nice rolling walls, everyone was having a blast, ripping and tearing the lip like there was no tomorrow.
Here is Mike Denison with a big slash across the face of the wave. This guy is a Power Surfer for sure!
It was crazy the amount of water moving today… and I’m not talking about the waves, I’m talking about the big sprays shooting up in the air for most of the surfers.
Popoyo might not have the big, fast, almond-shape barrels like other places, but it has such a great shape and speed that allows you to develop your surfing to the next level really fast!
That next level of surfing given by Popoyo is not even close to THE next level of Nicaragua surfing: the Outer Reef.
The Pipeline of Central America sits on a different level for sure… everyone dreams about it, “I’ll do it this year” it’s a very common thing to hear year after year.
And it is not rare to always see the same crowd, year after year, getting better at it.
Cande has dedicated a big part of her life to this wave… and she’s only 13!!
I can’t imagine what the Resano sisters’ level will be once they gain a little more experience!
The waves were opening really well but the tide was getting high really fast.
And with the high tide, it’s harder to find the barrels that everyone want to see.
I only saw empty barrels today… which is awesome because you can surf it with your imagination and there is no other person surfing inside your dream.

Right away Parker showed his surfing abilities and his knowledge of the wave as a “local” surfer. For every wave Blake or Stu took, Parker was riding 5 waves at least.
