Nicaragua Surf Report for Friday, August 04, 2023

Josh S

Hi everyone! Welcome to the Friday surf report from Panga Drops today! There were a few beautiful waves out there this morning for those who shifted to our deep water reef break.

Josh S

It was a little windy today, but the direction was fine in the morning. This A-frame peak needed a rider on the left!

The rights at Pangas are generally better than the lefts. They wall up more, giving one more speed and more opportunities for turns. However, they can shut down and run hot as well. Unfortunately this guy found a shut down section.

This guy was exiting the water shortly after I arrived to shoot. I suppose he is an experienced rock dodger or was unaware of the sneaky inside boulders at Pangas which begin to poke up at the water’s edge at low-tide.

Josh S

Pangas is a roundhouse wave. It’s a gentle giant. This surfer getting stylish by dragging his trailing hand in the wave face during this backside roundhouse.

Josh S

Our blue-board rider from earlier nailed this bottom turn. He’s looking and beginning to point toward the lip-line, while getting over his back-foot + toe-side rail. You can see his rail engaged and the bottom of his surfboard telling us that he’s doing things right with his lower body.

These two guys up the beach looked like they were enjoying a leisurely paddle in the mellower zone of Iguana’s beach, Villas Iguanas. FYI, the right in the background is super shallow and is a mirage. I know, it looks tempting haha

Josh S

Pangas can even be fun on a boogey-board! I imagine it’s a lot of kicking to work one’s way back out though.

Josh S

This little dude showcased some really smooth surfing for us today on the report. I like his style!

Josh S

On the other hand, this bigger guy was blasting some sections with power. He was surfing pretty well out there, so I bet he’s really sponsored by Quiksilver, see the sticker on his nose.

Josh S

Impressive! This guy managed to get his fins and tail to come around for a more critical top turn. Critical / vertical turns at Pangas are difficult because the wave’s wall is usually quite soft.

Josh S

Here’s our little dude from early showcasing that buttery style again! Maybe he’s trying to imitate the “Conner Coffin Down-Carve”?

Josh S

Fly like a butterfly and sting like a bee! From a smooth down-carve to an end section blast. This judge liked this combo!

Josh S

This picture pretty well captures the appeal of Iguana’s beach. Crisp offshore conditions, blue water, lush vegetation, and a relatively empty beach. We sure have it good here! The swell still hasn’t fully reasserted itself, but if you start looking at tickets now, then you’ll probably end up here around the time our uncharacteristic mellow spell ends. That’s today’s action, thanks for checking in and I hope you’re back tomorrow to see what Saturday brings.
