A little morning sickness at first when we got down there, but it cleaned up quickly with a little light rain and the rest of the day was magical small perfection.
It looked a bit like this!
Now before we dive headfirst into another fun report, I must bring up the elephant in the room, or in this case, the lineup today.
It seems that as fun as the waves can be even when it’s small, lately for some reason all surfing rules completely get thrown out the window.
and in doing so, there’s no regard to peoples right of way on waves, or more importantly the safety out there. If you’re coming to visit Nica, please adhere to the same rules you (should) be following from the beaches and breaks you come from. Remember surfing is about having fun! This doesn’t look fun… says the fourth guy deepest on this wave. Thanks to all who help keep this rule alive in ours and other surfing destinations. Now back to the fun surfing action!
There were lots of waves out there today, meaning, there weren’t too many lulls. So there we’re plenty of waves to go around for everyone.
Like this nice looking wave this guy got luckily without any shoulder hoppers.
My friend Brett rips. Bummed you have to leave buddy!
I was actually out shooting with two of my good friends today, Josee and Brett. I was pretty stoked the waves were as good as they were, as all three of our expectations were pretty low. Look at this nice surprise of a fun little swell we scored today!
Earlier I mentioned that the water was super clear. Shooting with my 70-200 today made any underwater shots impossible, BUT had I brought out one of my other shorter lenses and ports, I think you would have been able to see what I am talking about. Super clear AND Aqua Blue!!
Today was a good day for any kind of board out there, really. Punchy enough for a SB, cruisy enough for a fish or something with a little less rocker and more volume, or even a big old log. The options were wide open!
This dude had this cool fish kind of hybrid looking board, who knows might have even been hand shaped by him. Either way, he was having a blast out there today.
See, there was plenty of push for some high performance type surfing as well.
Some people were even getting straight up vertical top to bottom on their “off the tops”.
For example, here’s a really sick photo sequence of my amigo Brett completely destroying this lip.
Brett’s a pretty laid back guy… pun intended. But seriously, his surfing style is definitely one of my favorite surf styles to watch! He literally just shows up and blows up. All with the coolest attitude ever!
Speaking of showing up and blowing up, take quick peek at this new trailer from our good friends over at Surfari Charters for their up coming movie “SUBU” a short documentary that tells the unique story of Surfari Charters. Here is a brief look at the film. Stay tuned! For more information visit www.surfaricharters.com
Back to the timeless surfing and endless summer style of board quiver. I wasn’t joking when I said anything and everything could be ridden out there today.
I was stoked to be out shooting with JoJo today. We’re working hard on getting her the best wave shot of her life here at this famous break. Don’t be deceived by the size though and this shot, because when those buoys hit 6 feet plus and a long interval, she’s always out there training and practicing for that PEFECT BARREL! I just hope I’m there to capture it!
She had some compadres out there to share the lineup with as well. It’s always good to see some chicas out ripping together. That and it breaks up the sausage and testosterone party. Welcome down Jocelyn, visiting all the way from Switzerland!
Look at that water and how clear…!!! So awesome!
Good to see Sophie out there today too putting in some time in the lineup. Keep up the good work mi amiga!!
super fun little lefts ….
…. and rights all day.
And one thing is for certain if you’re a surfer through and through. This is the view we all live for!
Well that’s the end of my surf report. Hope you enjoyed some of the action from the water today. Tomorrow is Sunday Funday. Have fun tonight with whatever it is you might be doing and check back in mañana to see how we wrap up the weekend of fun in the sun in beautiful southern Nicaragua. Nos vemos más tarde ~
