Nicaragua Surf Report for Saturday, August 12, 2023

Josh S

Overcast sunset Saturday Surf Report coming your way from Panga Drops! I ended up getting stormed out off the beach during the photo session, but I managed to capture the general conditions and vibe today. It was a bit bigger today than yesterday, but overall pretty similar conditions.

The Panga roundhouse in full form from this regular footed surfer. Hold the rail and keep rotating!

Josh S

Big board big reward! I enjoy surfing Pangas on longer gear as you can high-line cruise on the walled up sections, then stomp on your back foot when necessary for your cutbacks.

Josh S

Party wave! If there was ever a spot for party waves it would probably be Pangas. The wave runs slower there both surfers have more time to react and there’s a lower likelihood of unintentional collisions.

Josh S

These are the fun sections at Pangas! The waves that wall up and throw you racey sections. Not as exciting as good Colorados, but you gotta make do with what nature gives you!

Josh S

This guy won the heat today with a stellar three maneuver wave! He’s already off to a good start by blasting the first section instead of doing a slower carve on rail.

Josh S

Here’s turn #2, another blast which scores well for Pangas which is a soft wave where critical maneuvers indicate skill. A bit of counter-rotation going on here with the arms though.

And for the finale section our goofy-footer smacked the soft-ball lip section shut. These softer falling lips are perfect for these vertical fin blasts.

Josh S

Although the surf action wasn’t bad today, I think Ruby’s horseback riding skills take the cake. It takes quite a bit of confidence to send your horse at full speed ahead and casually chuck your arms to the sky to claim the ride!

Josh S

A rain squall popped up pretty quick on me and darkened the skies. I guess the darkness confused the surfers! This was a left, but both guys opted to go right into the falling lip haha!

Panga’s show-casing it’s cruisey nature on this head high left roller.

Josh S

The last of the wave I got before I had to take shelter from the rain and lightning. The rainy season might be starting to rear its head?

Josh S

Before the rain squall showed up quite a few non-surfers had worked their way down to Pangas for sunset which I found interesting as people typically congregate at Pili’s for sunset. About half the folks were swimming and half spectating the surfers on the beach, but everyone looked like they were having a great time! That’s all I’ve got from this evening’s surf report. Tomorrow Mr. Tony Zeta returns to the report with a similar size projected for tomorrow.
