Nicaragua Surf Report for Thursday, August 24, 2023

Josh S

Hey everyone! I hope those of you here in Nica have managed to stay relatively high and dry in the torrential rain. There were no surfers that I spotted in the water today, and the photos I took at sunset were sub-par, so I decided to reflect on some B-ranked photos from a report about a month ago.

The water was a thick shade of brown today! I bet most of the surfers in Iguana will be dreaming of blue barrels tonight.

Boogey boarder and niño party wave :)

I didn’t see any barrels this perfect today. I will say that a few of the tubes I saw at mid-day resembled Cape Hatteras, NC.

It’s probably not going to be "sanitation grade 100” in the water for the next couple of days, but there’s plenty of sticks on the beach to play fetch with right now :)

Little Raido from Japan timed his trip to Nicaragua fairly well this year. He stayed longer than his other friends, so he caught a good little run of medium size surf before flying out about a week ago. Successfully dodged the onshore wind!

The sun was covered up all day today, so we didn’t get our daily dose of suns out buns out :(

We’ve only had two days of onshore and I’m ready to lock ’n load again! I guess I’ll get to work on my patience the next few days.

Although the rest of this month’s forecast on Surfline looks so-so, September looks like it could be our long overdue “epic” month (if Surfline holds steady and true).

Josh S

Well viewers, keep that powder dry for now and don’t book that ticket just yet… Let’s keep an eye on Surfline and see how things progress. I’m thinking September will be our great white hope, but if you’re more skeptically oriented then it could be worth waiting for visual confirmation after the first few reports from September drop.

Josh S

Sunshine and offshores will return eventually! We are blessed to (usually) only have about 30 to 45 onshore days per year. We had a strong run of offshores the past couple of months, so we were due for a week or so weird winds. Tomorrow looks like it will still be marginal in terms of conditions, but hopefully the water sanitation looks safe enough for some of our cooped up surfers to get wet!
