Not too much is going on in the ocean. There are a couple small little swells but nothing crazy. Today is what we consider a “down day;” however, there is still a fun chest to shoulder high wave.
Especially for the groms and frothers! This could be pushing head high… Hey, at least the shape is good.
Plenty of punch behind it to shave the lip off!
I think a cutback can be executed on any wave of any shape. Case and point from this little shredder.
His style is pretty sick too! Calm, cool, and composed. I’m sure big things are coming down the pipe for this rippah!!
Fast, hollow, and heavy are a few words John Gilem would describe his ideal wave. Easy enough: just surf the playa towards a low tide!!
And words I would describe John: still stoked in his golden years, styled out as ever, and a fun guy to share a line up with.
The rights and the lefts (wait a photo or two) were both working. That meant the incoming section was racing towards waiting to be smashed.
But the northern peak was my favored a frame. When the swell is smaller, a lot more peaks open up so everybody gets their own spot. Buttttt a big steam rolling freight train does sound kinda nice right now…
Weather wise, let’s keep an eye on it. If you’re from Florida or the south east, please stay safe, make the necessary preparations, and cross your fingers/knock on wood/say your prayers/do whatever you do. Not to mention, we hope our friends in Texas are recovering quickly and getting back to normal.
Down here, we anticipate weekend onshores and rain (that kind of weather is normal for this time of year). Hopefully the storm passes quickly for minimal East Coast damage and the offshores come back just in time for the swell!
Changing gears for a minute, we just received a new order of brand new Hyptos. You already knew that we rent surf boards, right? If not, start by checking out our selectionhere. If you plan to surf one of the reefs or points in the area, a Hypto might be the perfect board for you. Yes, they’re popular but they’re so smooth and fast!!
Or maybe you want something for a more critical wave? Then these Firewires will be right for you. I’m just bummed the Amigo and Pyzaliens aren’t big enough to float me!!! I bet they’re big enough to float you though so email[email protected]to reserve yours.
Just a taste for now and more updates to come later (hopefully this weekend?) but our shop renovations are coming along swimmingly. Yes, swimmingly. We are stoked to see how rad it looks inside and we are excited to post some updates soon!
Ok damas and caballeros, thank you for checking out some surf and surf shop shots! Take a fish out and enjoy the waves or cruse by our tienda to take care of your shopping. Have a good rest of the week primos!!
RECENT REPORTS
Hey amigos! Welcome to Tuesday’s surf report from Panga Drops. This lady either ended up a bit later than anticipated or misunderstood what it means to get barreled haha! I’ve got to give her credit for looking at this wave though. You don’t know if you don’t go (or at least look at going).
FROM THE ARCHIVES
One of the best wave working today was this left with long line and good size to make maneuvers. Here this visitor is looking the lip of the wall to make a trick. We see what he have to show!!!…
We just got some sick shots from our friend and local photographer Rick Briggs @donde_x and we wanted to share them with you. The winds were light offshore and the swell continues to fill in. Local charger Manuel Resano took advantage of the good conditions and locked into this beautiful beast.
