Nicaragua Surf Report for Friday, September 06, 2024

Josh S

Hey everyone! This Friday’s overall surf conditions were near identical to yesterday. Great waves in the morning with some offshore wind. Onshores around 11:00am. But we got a lucky break around 4:00pm with another glass off. Today’s report is from the afternoon glassy window.

The tide was high this afternoon, so there weren’t many tubes on tap. This guy opted for a high speed chop-hop spinner. These are a fun way to leverage high speed at high tide.

This guy was one of only a few surfers to find some shade during the high-tide afternoon glass off window.

An interesting choice of equipment from this rider. He decided to whip out a small foamie for the novelty effect this evening. He pulled off a pretty sick roundhouse, especially given the board he was on.

Caio, a competitive surfer from Brazil, definitely won the heat this evening. Perhaps he was fired up after watching the WSL finals today.

Josh S

Caio rotated all the way through his turns, then added some extra flare by lifting his left arm and shoulder at the end of the carve.

Josh S

Keep in mind that these frontside turns are all from one wave. You’ll see that he ends up racking up some serious points.

Josh S

A quick blast to tack on some extra decimal points while eyeing up the end-section.

Josh S

Layback slam dunk! It looks like he’s using the force here with the spray coming up haha. Definitely an excellent score here Caio!

Josh S

On another right, Caio stuck this crisp and clean frontside air-reverse. The Brazilians definitely dominate the air-space!

Textbook form through this bottom turn as expected from an ex-champ. I bet he’s got a few more first places in his future.

Josh S

You know the lip isn’t safe here because his trailing arm blasting up is a speed blur in this frame.

This mystery rider sitting patiently at the North peak was rewarded with the tube of the afternoon. He got fairly deep and made it out clean.

Josh S

Laying back hard on a Slater board. There were plenty of fun sections to blast and experiment with at high-tide this afternoon.

Well amigos, this wraps up Friday’s report. Not a bad outcome relative to expectations today. A good window in the morning and a good window in the evening. I think we will have to put up with the swirly wind and onshores for most of this month, but the good news is that we should have consistent chest to head high swell. It’s all about catching the right windows with the wind and tide this month. See you all tomorrow.
