Nicaragua Surf Report for Tuesday, September 21, 2010

This Saturday, September 25, is International Coastal Cleanup day and Nicaragua is mobilizing. With the heavy rains lately rivers have been sending out garbage along with the regular flotsam of branches and silt that nature produces into the ocean and towards the beaches. So the coastline here is in more need of our assistance than usual. Armies of volunteers will descend on the coast this Saturday with the goal of collecting, recording, and removing trash there. We'll be doing our part in cooperation with other businesses, local and foreign residents, workers, and guests to make Playa Colorado sparkle from Rio Dulce to Los Perros. If you are around and would like to participate we'll be meeting at 7am on the road at the round-a-bout in the middle of the beach (behind Mark and Dave's Place).

The Ocean Conservancy is leading the effort to organize this event globally. To find out more or to see how you can get involved at your local beach visit their website www.oceanconservancy.org/cleanup

As Gretchen and I were doing our rounds spreading the word and looking for volunteers for Saturday we stopped in at the little Santa Martha School. This is a two room school that was built by the developers of Hacienda Iguana/Playa Colorado and serves 33 students from the community of Santa Martha and nearby families. We found teachers and students alike excited about getting together with their families for the cleanup effort.

We'll report back on Saturday to let you know how it went down. Now on to the day's report.

Down in San Juan del Sur, we went to the beach trying to score some waves but unfortunately the winds were blowing super strong onshore.  A few guys paddled out but it was svery hard to sit in the right spot.  Check it out!

There were not many waves to be taken but this little kid took advantage on some of the better ones.  Check him out riding one of the cleaner ones.

This guy from Venezuela was having a blast out there.  Maybe that's because he's used to ride these kinda waves.  Nice turn buddy!!!

A few beginners tried to catch some waves on their own and they did.  Here I caught this one doing his thing on this mushy wave.

Here is another local kid dropping into a nice little nugget.  The local kids were having a good time out there.

It's not rained in the last days but there are still lots of trees on the beach.  Maybe you can surf on a couple of them.

Dum and dummer just got back from Canada and here he is on his brand new transport.  That thing is so fast than even the camera couldn't get the speed, that's why the picture is blurry.  Dale Codo, buenas Noches!!!
