In the famous words of Carlos Caliente: “ohh buddy.” This isn’t quite the view I wanted to wake up to but it’s the view we have for October. Maybe that’s why reservations are pretty light this month…
Well, there are a couple waves coming through (plenty of rights actually)! Despite the wind, this one had a couple teeth to show off.
Are our gardeners really really good at maintaining high water levels in our pools or did it rain a little last night? Actually, it rained a ton last night!
With the large amounts of rain, the rivers break through. And broken rivers carry debris into the water. Nothing crazy is out there but don’t stick your air right on top of a floating log…
Hmmm a quick check down at the beach break? I think Jack and Paty have that one covered. A quick nap time before work starts? I think so!
Hey Felipe Toledo, if you’re reading this, come down to NICA!! You can show off an air clinic and teach the local rippers how it’s done. Isn’t Cascais almost over anyways?
Ok, I understand (and agree) that the surf isn’t as exciting or consistent as it is in the other months but it’s still my job to make sure you enjoy the report. Keep scrolling down for some goodies!
While we are in slow season, I made a quick (haha that’s a joke) trip up to El Canyon de Somoto. This is sort of like Nicaragua’s Grand Canyon. In the northern mountains, the river water collects and rushes through the passes. So climb down the walls, traverse the river (float, jump, swim, climb, etc.), and enjoy all that Mother Nature shows off!
In Southern Nicaragua, we have the offshores and stay relatively dry. In Northern Nicaragua, they receive healthy amounts of rain. Next week, I think Southern NICA is going to look like Northern with this huge rain storm coming…
For a not water resistant iPhone, it was a little tough to take pictures of all the rapids, cliff jumps, and climbing. So, I don’t have much to show off inside the canyon unless Sophia from England gets back to me… However, los 3 vagos still have our shot together! Luis Fransisco and Jose Hilario were my faithful companions for the trip.
Somoto, I will see you again! 1. I need to visit you when the water is blue and clear (not while it’s raining heavily) and 2. so I can see your grand view of the rivers meeting. See you again soon amigo…
First full day of the trip: check. Now, it’s time to fuel up. I’m making my buddy Kevin Malone of Fistpump Fitness proud with this diet. Salted lime peanuts are halfway healthy, right???
We woke up the next morning and b lined it to Matagalpa. First, we checked out Cascada Blanca and heard about all the superstitions surrounding this waterfall. Clearly, it’s the rainy season in Nicaragua, huh? Don’t stick your head under that one…
Fair game for this little one tucked away on the mountain! Keep following the trail to see what’s next…
This is the view from the mirador in Matagalpa. Sure check out the city but take a good long hard look at the rolling green mountains… I love how so many parts of this country aren’t developed.
One more from the view above!! Ok guys and gals, we appreciate you guys hanging tight (and continuing to hang tight through the month of October). Have a good start to the week everybody!! Nos vemos pronto.
RECENT REPORTS
Hey everyone! Welcome to Friday’s surf report from Panga Drops. The conditions were very similar to yesterday, possibly a little bigger on the sets.
FROM THE ARCHIVES
Oi primos. I was waithing for the low tide to see how the waves were working and here it is. This right was working with tubitos. Not to many people in the line up, so was like a calm out session to the surfers.
