If you’re not used to this time of year with rain and the reverse offshore winds, you would almost think it’s nuts to be here… but it’s not all that bad.

I’m sure you’re thinking to yourself…. “Brian… look at todays surf and weather???” and you’re partially correct, however, I’ve lived here full time for 8 years now and I can say that October usually has quite a few good sunny days and believe it or not, some really nice swell as well. Don’t believe me, well that’s what I have in store for you today.

Even though each years has it’s little magical moments in October, this year in 2017’s weather, light offshore winds and perfect waves might just have you re-thinking your strike mission dates after all.

PUMPING and only a handful of people out (please also keep in mind that this was before the political unrest stuffs and this years crazy COVID).
Maybe my most memorable October swell of all the years I’ve been here. Here are some highlights from 2 days back to back around mid October of 2017.

Perfection in June… NOPE, July…. not even…… try October! Who say’s the “offseason” is all that bad???

You know what one of my favorite things about flashing back like this on our down days is…?? Seeing some of my good friends out enjoying their time surfing super uncrowded waves and ripping, having a good time! Mi amigo, Tom Eberly doing what he loves most!!!!

Or how about this flashback…. you all remember Mr. Parker Hannahs, aka “HotstickHannahs”!!!

Getting shacked out of your mind in one of the least favored months on this stretch of coastline, Austin Smith Ford from Santa Cruz, showing how much he knows about rolling the dice by heading to the least crowded surf destinations with years of experience.

Possibly one of my all time single favorite wave sequences I’ve shot here in Nica-Land over the years.

Josh Springfield on one of the heaviest lefts of the day and quite possibly the wave of the year in 2017!

Look at this perfection!!!!!!! Ohhhhh October…. why are you so bi-polar to me!!! Jajajajaja

Not sure if Parkers is saying “don’t forget to call me” or maybe he’s saying “don’t forget to vote”, but either way, he’s one sexy beast! Miss you buddy!!!!Thanks for all of your patience through this gloomy time… a little birdie tells me it’s supposed to maybe go back to offshore again mañana???? If he’s right, we’re all going to be super STOKED!!!! Hasta la pasta ~
