Somewhere in Nicaragua

Hi folks, we are the NSR family bringing you a little bit of the action for the Friday surf report.  October was epic this year and here we are getting onshores in November – go figure!  The wind is still blowing onshore today and the waves aren’t anything to write home about so we stayed in town and went down to the bay to get some photos.  As you can see, it’s mushy, small and uninspiring – but you can still surf if you really wanted to!

It’s hard to get good photos when the waves are like this.  This is Gerson “El Botetas” Ramos with a small but cool little turn.  Check out the cool “Lancha” in the background.  That thing just pulled into port recently.

David “El Pelon” Osiris was the only international surfer out.  Think he was desperate or what?  He was catching tons of little waves, doing the best to have fun.  More power to you Dave!

San Juan del sur is been growing quite a bit in the last few years and we’ve been getting better bit by bit.  Check out the brand new mini-Golden Gate Bridge we just finished up a couple weeks ago.  The locals used to have to walk across or through the river to get to town and it was sometimes impossible during the rainy season.  Now everybody can walk across without getting wet!  This is a huge benefit to our small community and is much appreciated by all – plus, it looks cool!

As you probably know, we had a minor hurricane hit the Atlantic coast of Nicaragua yesterday and it’s adversely affecting our normal offshore wind conditions.  The winds are supposed to stay like this for a few more days, until the storm patterns of hurricane Ida go away.  Please check back tomorrow and find out what we’ll have for you.  Now these folks have the right idea – Friday night = Nica-libre time!

Election Update: Well folks, as of 8am Monday morning, 15% – 25% of the votes are showing Ortega with between 38% and 40% of the vote and a solid 7% to 8% lead over the second place candidate, Eduardo Montealegre. It’s not a done deal yet, but it’s looking like Nicaragua will continue the trend..
