The size calmed and surged throughout various parts of the day. It lulled out for a bit just after dead low-tide. But there were still inside corners to be had like this left.

Talking to Kai before his heats, you would think a guy so relaxed couldn't hurt a fly. But once you seen him seriously approach a quality wave, then you realize that he has a serious game-face.

Yuji and Kai had two excellent sets come their way in the Open Shortboard final. They both got good combos and gave each other a run for their money.

Kai perfectly positioned and rotating in a very tight space. Yuji's waves were bigger and more open, but Kai surfed with greater precision and sharpness. In the end, Kai took first and Yuji second in Open Men Shortboard. Both great results for the most competitive division of the comp.

We had a brief paddle-out and ceremony to celebrate the life of Kenny Smith, who was a regular fixture in the lineup at Pangas. He was a tremendous guy and a tremendous help to Dan, the contest manager, each year. We miss having Kenny out there surfing with us and cracking jokes with the peanut gallery under the judges' tent. We had very fun and playful surf for everyone, a great Chompipe contest and day to celebrate Kenny! Thanks for checking in and hasta manana.
