It was raining cats and dogs, shoots I think it was more like it was raining vacas y caballos (cows and horses out there this morning). Straight up down pouring rain and I was starting to wonder if I was going to be able to get in some time to sneak down to the beach, let alone whether anyone was even out?
To my surprise, (the rain had stopped too btw) but I was blown away with how many people were out surfing. However, looking back towards the east and especially towards Gigante, I knew another big rain squall was looming and moving in quickly. So I shot as much as I could, as quickly as I could but mother nature caught me with my pants down (i.e. no camera/rain protection whatsoever) so I boogied, no more like RAN as I was half way down the beach and my moto where I had my camera bag with my rain cover was in as fast as I could.
Ahhhhhh, one of the best things you could ever buy or have in your camera bag. I really never have to use this very often as I am pretty good about timing the weather, but supposedly this is going to be one of the wettest La Niña years in a long long time. If you look closely not even the cover was keeping the rain off of my lens. It got to a point where my camera could barely focus because of all the water droplets on the glass. My shirt, shorts, everything was soaked, so I shot what I could and figured I’d make my way back with what I had.
Some people were even coming in.
Over it and calling it a day, and it wasn’t even 10am yet.
But then I saw more people going out…..
And just like that, the clouds dissipated and the sun even came out and it started to look like a semi nice, decent good lighting day (minus the onshore part).
How’s that for a change in light, color, and tac sharp photos, since I went back to my moto to wipe off my glass and remove my rain cover as I didn’t see any need for that anymore. Glad I got back down in time to see Jackson throwing this HUGE air!!!
The lighting got amazing, and the wave faces kinda went a little glassy, despite all that onshore wind blown texture out the back. This guy has something ahead that he’s got his eyes on……
BOOOOM!!! There it is!
Some nice swell, its just those darn backwards winds. Didn’t matter though, everyone out was ripping!
Check out this kids sick backside cutback. Super sick!!
I am pretty sure almost everyone out surfing comes from some sort of very similar waves as they were surfing today, which would explain why they were so comfortable looking out there.
Rock’ n’ Rolll. . . all the way!!!
Even his pops was killing it out there with his son.

Sun was back to shining and the smiles were abundant! You never know what you’re gonna get during the rainy season, BUT you can always count on some smiles and shaka’s will be thrown. RECENT REPORTS
Hey amigos! Welcome to Tuesday’s surf report from Panga Drops. This lady either ended up a bit later than anticipated or misunderstood what it means to get barreled haha! I’ve got to give her credit for looking at this wave though. You don’t know if you don’t go (or at least look at going).
FROM THE ARCHIVES
Welcome to the Sunday surf report. It was a bit of a drizzly day, but the winds were calm and the water water super glassy. So it was another good day to be out in the surf!
