This place has been the mecca for waves within a 50 smiles radius now for well over a month. So glad I get to call this place home.
Being a long term visitor, I am by no means a real local, but getting to know the amazing people here, better known as Nicaragüenses, they all have amazing hearts and a sense of giving like no others I have met along my travels throughout the globe.
It’s no wonder why the people who live by the sea understand it so well.
They adapt to the things that bring them much happiness and prosperity not always necessarily associated with money.
Even though this is one of the poorest countries (economically) the love is deeply rich in large amounts of pride and a feeling of togetherness.
I could easily sit for a few days telling feel good stories of the kinds of things the Nicaragüense people do here on a daily basis freely, just out of the kindness of their own hearts.
So being that I’ve been here through one of their toughest times in almost 30 years, it’s a definite eye opener to see what it looks like when a country truly comes together as a unified whole.
It’s a beautiful thing. Much like this sweeping backside cutback Oscars been perfecting his entire life.
I must say there’s a good amount of people here for being only January, which is still pretty early for the busier surf season.
Carlos here, busting one of the sickest airs I’ve seen him do in a while, came out of the water like he always does, HUGE smile, shivering a little from the recently chili waters and he asked me how it was going… totally careless if I had captured his this amazing sequence. When I showed him in the back of the camera, he grinned and said.. “Whoa that’s pretty sick”, humble as always, he kindly asked if I could give him the shot and I said, without hesitation, YUP!
I’ve seen most of these young guns, now turning into men surfing since they were grommets. I’ve also been to every beach from San Juan Del Sur all the way up to Vera Cruz and I have to say, this stretch of beach has some of the most well rounded polite Nicaragüense surfers I’ve ever met. Just great kids!
Hey dude, did you get my last wave in…..???? Jajajaja, what do you think… Of course! I get everyone’s waves!!!
Phi Lu coming round the corner with some good speed. Phillipo is pretty much our house/resident DJ, so even though you might see him surfing by day, you’re bound to be getting jiggy on the dance floor later in the evening to his groovy funky beats!
The grom and my favorite micro machine surfer of the week, Maycol Mejia, killing it out there little buddy!
The pelicans always fly south in the late afternoon…. where these two are headed, I have no idea??? Maybe Mag Rock for a party??? Either way, fly safe my friends. See you all tomorrow for the Saturday surf report. Chao for now ~
RECENT REPORTS
Hi everyone! Welcome to Tuesday’s surf report from Panga Drops. The waves were decent again today. The morning window was definitely best as it got wonky at the middle peak when the tide filled in.
FROM THE ARCHIVES
