Nicaragua Surf Report for Wednesday, February 05, 2020

Javier Baldovinos

Hello surfers of the world, ready for another day of surfing in Nicaragua? Well, today the waves were small but something really cool happened today, take a look.

I was taking photos of Kencito, the only surfer in the water, getting pushed by his dad, when I saw a parade of people, most of them with their cameras/phones ready, walking towards the ocean.

Everyone was excited about the whole thing, specially Bruno who was carrying a big, heavy tub.

The whole commotion was because they were about to release more than 50 baby turtles from Pili's nursery.

Tiny and beautiful baby turtles, full of energy and ready to hit the ocean.

Javier Baldovinos

Right before releasing the turtles Bruno gave a quick explanation of why Pili's Restaurant started this nursery, said some facts about the baby turtles and informed everyone about the rules to follow while releasing the turtles.

Javier Baldovinos

These are some of the rules: - Do not touch the turtles - Do not take photos using flash - Stay behind the line and give enough room for the turtles to crawl freely to the water.

One by one, they put all the turtles on the sand and right away they started pushing themselves with their flippers towards the ocean.

And just like that they started swimming and enjoying the water and pretty fast they dissapeared under the foam and the waves.

Kencito missed the baby turtle show but... not that often you have the whole Playa Colorado just to yourself!

It was a great sunset and a great adventure to see these baby turtles making it to the ocean. Thank you Bruno, Pili and the whole Pili's crew for making this possible. Cheers!
