Nicaragua Surf Report for Tuesday, April 11, 2017

Javier Baldovinos

Hola a todos! Welcome to today´s surf report from Santana beach, Tola, Nicaragua. It´s Tuesday and all the beaches around Nicaragua are getting prepared for Semana Santa!

Javier Baldovinos

When I arrived to the beach there was only one surfer in the water, guess who? Mister Mullet! He had the whole beach for himself (and his mullet), catching all the good ones at first peak.

15 minutes later that guy showed up running with his bodyboard, he couldn´t wait to catch some of those nice waves. Oh yeah, there was also a horseback riding tour passing through on the beach.

Javier Baldovinos

Right away he started getting some nice rides on first peak. He is looking directly to the camera like asking “are you getting this?”

Javier Baldovinos

Suddenly everybody decided to come to the beach. There was this family who brought his beach chairs while the kids were playing in the water. Semana Santa style!

A few of the younger locals showed up too. They were catching all the little ones on the inside, which means that they were catching a lot of waves!

I met this kid on the beach, he was having a Coca Cola and a small bag of chips as lunch right before getting in the water. I asked him: “A matarla o a matarte?” (To kill it or to get killed?) he just started laughing all shy and said “a materme!” (“to get killed!”). He said his name was Jon Jon Flores (John John Florence) right before he took off to the water! I stayed there laughing for a while.

It´s great to see how the level of surfing has been improving through out the years, now all the little kids are starting to do bigger, stronger turns.

Here is Jan teaching the locals a few tricks on how to surf with style… mullet style!

I was at the Surf Sanctuary the other day with Jan and Tony, and we saw an Iguana enjoying the sun and the breeze, can you find it?

Javier Baldovinos

This is the biggest iguana I´ve ever seen in Nicaragua! and just hanging right at the top of the coconut tree. Super cool!

Javier Baldovinos

On the right there were just a few surfers. The waves were opening a little bit better than first peak but they were not barreling.

Javier Baldovinos

Nothing like the barrels at first peak, specially if you are on a bodyboard. I should get one.

The conditions will stay like this for a few more days so, come back and keep having fun with our report! Saludos
