The wave is a wedgy peak formed by a rebound that breaks in front of these rocks. The Arena Caliente Surf Camp and NSR crew learned from workers on the site that the pier will be constructed 70 meters from coast in the water.

Notice the line of rebar marking the support posts of the pier. It is clear that access to this special wave will be affected by this project. It is possible the wave will no longer be surf-able.

Work is moving forward quickly, with workers using a combination of explosives and pneumatic tools to dig into the rock here. The impact of this project is not limited to the waves.

According to the latest information we have, the person responsible for this project has approval, but obtained it by bypassing local officials charged with protecting the environmental and economic interests of the community. It is possible to save this wave. You can help by writing a short letter describing the importance of this beach and the impact its loss would have. Email your letter to[email protected]or[email protected].
