Nicaragua Surf Report for Friday, June 20, 2008

A quick reminder that the Santana Surf Contest is this weekend starting on Saturday.  Come on out to Playa Santana and check it out.  There will be a beach party on Sat. night and NSR can book your place to stay if you email us.  Come on out and support our local surfers!  I'd also like to announce that we just updated NSR with new and improved features and information.  Be sure to click through the menu items to see what we've added.  (we know some of the links don't work right now so please be patient as we get them fixed)

Alright, now for the surf report this is Roberto “Lucha Libre”, Jairo “Come Pan” Panic, and Mateo “Pledge” with the Friday surf report. We headed up to Santana today early to get ready for the contest. There was cool vibe in the water with everyone trying to surf there best and intimidate competitors. There was solid swell in the water, but there was a lot of close outs. We went out there and still got a bunch of fun waves. It was running overhead with offshore wind and warm water. This is an unknown rider with a powerful cutback.

Armando “Codo” Lopez made it on the page again. This guy has been on a streak of getting some of the best waves of every session. Here he is dragging backside about to pull into a sick left.

This is Augusto “La Gaviota” taking off on what is about to be one of the best waves of the day, but a fellow surfer is fully about to foam ball him. Whenever there is a lot of people in the water we all want to get waves, but we have to be able to respect the others surfers as well.

Roque “Balboa” was out there at the first peak scoring some sick waves. Here he his using some of his power to lay into the face of this wave.

There was a bunch of talent in the water today. This is an unknown rider going pretty big on this left. Hey “La Baloy”, you might have some competition in the air show tomorrow, huh?

Mario “El Danino” paddled out there to show everyone that it’s his home break and that he has this wave wired. Here he goes getting a sweet barrel standing straight up.

Setting up…….

Standing up……

Covered…….

Clean and safe….

Dale pues!!!

Mario “El Danino” not only know where to pull in on this wave, but he knows the best where to draw a vertical line. This is why he is gonna be such a strong competitor tomorrow.

Here is a good shot of the last guy from this crew pulling a pretty sick air.  It was really cool seeing everyone out there pushing each others surfing. Tomorrow should be a fun day with some good competition in the water. The swell is still looking alright so there should be some fun surf for the contest. Check back!
