Nicaragua Surf Report for Monday, December 26, 2016

Hola amigos y bienvenidos al reporte de NSR!! This is Hotstick Hannahs starting off a fresh week of reports from southern Nicaragua. Click “read more” to check out the shots!!

There is a touch more swell in the ocean. Nothing significant filled in, but there is a fresh bump with some more size. You know the waves are flat everywhere else when it’s chest/shoulder high and sets of head high here.

Yes, this spot is a magnet, but the tradeoff is a softer face. Don’t be fooled though- there’s a lot of water rushing towards you so you still need a good duck dive!!

Chris Connor came over for a morning surf. If there is a surfable right (especially if it has a tube), you will find him on it! He’s a mellow guy who has been here a while so send a wave his way.

Roger Hochman is another early bird. He’s another super nice guy- until somebody burns him. Then he means business!!!!

Not too shabby of a wave for the offseason, huh? Does somebody want to come help me with the camera while I go surf???

Our CSO of the EMHEC picked off a couple lefts. Personally, I think the right rolls a little longer and better (but I’m a biased regular footer).

Also, it’s a deceptively fast wave on the take off. It gets tricky because there is not a strong lip to smack and you need to manage your speed in the flat sections. Depending on the conditions, this wave shows off many different faces.

Lately, we’ve been showing you shots from mid to higher tides so here is one from the lower tide. Rent Casa Blanca or Casa Cantamar to keep an eye on this spot 24/7. You’ll understand how it functions at each tide, when to surf it, and where to sit.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the middle of the week. We should have two minor swells from different directions. If the conditions pan out, that should produce fun double ups on beach breaks.

Before we wrap up the report for the day, a quick note on the local temperatures. Do you see how Chris Connor is wearing a full suit? The water has chilled down from the 80’s to the mid 70’s. If you get cold easily or you plan to surf a long session, we recommend packing a top or light spring suit. If you forget one, we have Vissla and NSR have you covered in our shop!

Ok camas and caballeros, we are going to finish up our work and go enjoy the higher tide. We hope you had a great Christmas or you are enjoying Hannukah! Stay tuned to our report and hasta en la mañana!
