Nicaragua Surf Report for Friday, December 29, 2023

Josh S

Happy Friday everyone! Josh back behind the lens for a fairly long period of time while Mr. Tony Z chases waves during our mellow season of surf. The waves today were pretty good at Pangas! Luckily I had a few more surfers to shoot than usual.

Every 10 minutes or so, there would be an outside set that would catch everyone off guard. It’s a shame too, as these were some of the better waves of the morning.

Josh S

The rides can be so long at Pangas that you will often have two or more surfers up and riding in the same frame. It makes for fun spectating from the beach as there is no shortage of action when there are more than 10 to 15 surfers out.

Josh S

Lucy was determined to douse everyone behind her waves today.

Josh S

Party wave! This drop-in was relatively harmless as the other guy was pretty deep and didn’t look too worked up about this gentle wave. It’s a different story when it’s pumping though!

Josh S

Roberto trying to avoid the guillotine before reaching 2024 haha.

Josh S

Lucy attempting a fin-ditch. This is a risky move at Pangas because the wave is so soft, that it is difficult to re-enter post-execution.

Josh S

Heyner won the heat today. Maximum power and torque on this top turn!

Josh S

There you go Lucy! That’s a safer bet there. Keeping that rail engaged is the secret code to surfing Pangas well.

Josh S

The inside section on the rights can occasionally get hollow. It was pretty gentle today, but this guy got some good speed through this inside section.

Josh S

Hate to break it to you Rob, but maybe you should’ve waited for wave #2 haha!

Josh S

Pangas is a very, very difficult wave to execute sharp turns on. The fact that Heyner completed and timed this backside blast on such a small wave demonstrates his proficiency here.

Josh S

Well amigos that was today’s surf action from Pangas! To tease the question of, “How was french fries?” It was good, but you needed a long-board. I saw some crazy long-little racers slide across that northern bar. I hear the wind puffing a little more outside now, but I think the surf and wind should be fairly similar tomorrow. Thanks for stopping by and have a good one!
