Nicaragua Surf Report for Wednesday, February 15, 2017

Javier Baldovinos

Hello! This is Baldo with today’s surf report. Today I decided to go check out a couple of spots to see where to go surfing tomorrow, now that the swell started building up through out the day. I went to the two closest breaks from my house: Santana beach and Popoyo beach! Nada mal, verdad?

Javier Baldovinos

First stop was Santana. When I arrived there where only two surfers in the water and these three guys were getting ready to get wet.

This surfer was one of the first two guys in the water. He was by himself at first peak catching everything! as soon as he made back to the line up he just turned around and catch the next one.

Here is the second guy, also by himself but in the middle of the beach catching mostly rights. The waves here were closing out but he managed to get a few good ones.

Javier Baldovinos

Santana is famous for its fast, hollow waves and today was no exception… these two guys shared the peak but none of them could go fast enough to make it to the face.

Javier Baldovinos

The locals know exactly what to do when surfing close out waves… go for a sick floater along the lip!

Javier Baldovinos

With the incoming tide filling in the waves started to open a little bit better.

Here is Junior Martínez getting barreled on this monster wave, the whole thing collapsed on him…

… but he managed to sneaked out the door with a big smile on his face.

Javier Baldovinos

Here is Junior again, literally flying down the line!

Santana was good but is time to leave and go to Popoyo before sunset

Javier Baldovinos

On my way to Popoyo I found this cute family getting dinner on a Chilamate tree. This area is full of Howler monkeys!

Javier Baldovinos

Made it to Popoyo… the bar was busy with spectators and the line up was getting busier by the minute.

Javier Baldovinos

Famous for its long, big wall rights, Popoyo is the spot to go when a good size swell comes in.

Javier Baldovinos

It was hard to take good photos because I had the sun right in front of me, so I had to stop. This wave it´s so much fun.

Javier Baldovinos

What a perfect way to finish the day… cold drinks, friends, waves and a sunset! Tomorrow is suppose to be bigger so, if you are around, paddle out… if you are away, sucks to be you!

Javier Baldovinos

Remember that on Feb 22nd there will be “Night of Stand Up Comedy” to raise funds for FIMRC, which is a non profit dedicated to medical relief for children in the area. Don´t miss it!
