Somewhere in Nicaragua
Hola and welcome to not only the Monday surf report, but it’s also a pretty big day around the globe if you haven’t already heard. It’s International Women’s Day… so because of it’s specialness of today and the waves are super windy and small, I decided to do a full women’s ONLY surf report (a retrospective) to some of Nica-Lands better days of waves and of course, highlighted by some of the hard charging local lady talent and some of Hacienda Iguana’s special ladies! Check it out ~
No words needed really for these two gals, if you you’re from around these parts. Megan & Liz proudly representing the E.E.U.U. but their hearts are forever Nicaraguan! That’s why it’s International Women’s Day!
Lindsey stepping up her A-game this last season while it was pretty much the slowest we’ve all seen in maybe a decade.
This is what it will do when you have almost perfect waves to yourself with no crowds. Goes to show what you can accomplish when you’re not too busy working your life away and you get back to the finer things in life…. like SURFING!!!! 😉
Speaking of working your life away… well, I can say that Heather here, AKA – the boss lady, Hace Queso & also better known as the real fire fuel behind the NSR working machine; Heather McMandon does take time (obviously like you see here) away from the desk and 500 other things she has going on to catch some waves from time to time. Yeah Heather…!!
You would be surprised to see the local lady talent down here. Like Rutci here, who will often paddle out when some guys will call it a Toña break kinda day if it’s maxing out. But big or small, Rutci is on it!
Even the smaller lady’s in the group charge! Here’s one of the Resano groms a few years back. But don’t be deceived, I have plenty photos of them paddling out (which is nuts enough to think about) but actually catching and surfing Popoyo’s Outer Reef waves at such young ages. To ask where they are now, well they travel all over the world with their super charging Dad Manny catching big waves whenever & wherever it’s BIG! But home is right here.
The awesome lady factor doesn’t just apply to the surfing gals also. We have a big supportive group of ladies from all ages, surfers or beach lovers equally the same. Hola ladies!!!
Most people come here to surf first and figure out what to do for work second. It’s a good thing Tati’s work occupies most of her time in the evenings at her Italian restaurant, because she get’s to surf pretty much anytime during the day. Now that’s smart thinking!
Emily literally just left here a couple of days ago, but I am sure she still can feel the waves in her sleep, until her next trip back at least, which I think will be very soon!
Some honorable mentions of some great gal surfers that have spent a lot of time here, but have maybe been separated by their ever loving Nicaragua due to world travel difficulties or other reasons. Antonella has come to love this place much like everyone else, so I’m sure she’ll be back.
Katie is another one who you would regularly see doing daily cartwheels down the beach. If it’s cartwheels that get you going for a surf like this, I think I need to start doing more cartwheels!!! Jajaja
Danai is back over in Europe which still has surf, but she’ll have to cover up and get into a thick wetsuit where she’s currently at. I bet she misses these tropical warm water waves so much!
You know who won’t be going anywhere, except to maybe take a holiday…. this gal! Jenny Cortez is real true Nica local blood, and her family namesake provides some of the best surfing to come out of this country alone. It’s no wonder why she’s so gifted with this amazing sport we all love so much!
Like I said earlier, not everyone female here surfs….. BUT, that’s OK, it is International Women’s Day, so we need to recognize and give a shout out to all of our special ladies out there today!
Even the funny, mischievous ones!! haha you know I love you Eugenia. btw This is hot Carl’s wife and extraordinarily super detailed oriented human… even more than me. Now that’s saying something! lol
Pauli pre mama days… (which is a whole other level of appreciation of all the women out there) at one her favorite surf spots.
Jenna, a super cool gal slip sliding away and tucking under a sweet one, on one of those epic sunset sessions last season.
and last but not least…. how could I not go out on International Women’s Day with an image like this, where it says, cool and calm, yet still classy and lady-like with this poised and fire under pressure in a lineup full of testosterone photo… our beloved Aura “Slaying” one for the gals a few years back. Absolutely beautiful!!!
So that is it my friends and especially all of you amazing women out there today who hopefully got a chance to see my dedicated report for you.. and for anyone whom I left out on here, I deeply apologize, because I am limited with time and slideshow space. I could literally do a 50 photo International Women’s Day report and still not mention all the special women we have here, but I hope you enjoyed & have a great evening…. Saludos ~
