Hey folks we have a bittersweet Surf Report to deliver today. This wave is at Playa Yankee just south of San Juan and it is being threatened by the construction of a pier.Hola Amigos, hoy damos el Surf Report con mucho tristesa. Esa ola está en la Playa Yankee y en este moment la amaneza la construcción de un muelle.
The wave is a wedgy peak formed by a rebound that breaks in front of these rocks. The Arena Caliente Surf Camp and NSR crew learned from workers on the site that the pier will be constructed 70 meters from coast in the water.La ola aqui esta formada por dos olas cruzando que quebran directamente frente de esas rocas. El equipo de Arena Caliente Surf Camp y NSR fueron informados por trabajadores allí que el muelle sería construido 70 metros de largo dentro del agua.
Notice the line of rebar marking the support posts of the pier. It is clear that access to this special wave will be affected by this project. It is possible the wave will no longer be surf-able.Nota la linea de palos de hierro donde tienen planeado construir los postes del muelle. Es muy claro que acceso a esta ola será afectado por el proyecto. Ademas, es posible no se podrá surfear esa ola en el futuro.
Work is moving forward quickly, with workers using a combination of explosives and pneumatic tools to dig into the rock here. The impact of this project is not limited to the waves.Trabajo en este proyecto sigue avancando. Trabajadores están explotando y usando herramientas de presion para excavar gran huecos en las rocas. Es obvio que el proyecto no solo afectará las olas tambien, pero tambien el medioambiente y la naturaleza.
According to the latest information we have, the person responsible for this project has approval, but obtained it by bypassing local officials charged with protecting the environmental and economic interests of the community. It is possible to save this wave. You can help by writing a short letter describing the importance of this beach and the impact its loss would have. Email your letter to[email protected]or[email protected]. Your letters will be delivered to the San Juan del Sur Mayor’s office and MARENA (the environmental protection organization).Segun noticias mas recientes la persona responsable por el proyecto tiene permiso pero lo obtuvo de oficiales en Managua no del Alcaldia de San Juan ni MARENA. Es todavia posible de salvar esa ola. Puedes ayudar, solo escribe un carta corta describiendo la importancia de la playa/la ola y el gran impacto que tendría su perdida. Manda tu carta por coreo electronico a[email protected]o[email protected]. Las cartas serán entregados a La alcadia de San Juan del Sur y MARENA.

RECENT REPORTS
Happy 4th of July! The size of the surf dropped notably today. There were still good sets, but patience was key (again). Hard to believe there were no takers on this one!
Hey amigos! Welcome to Thursday’s surf report from Playa Colorado. I saw some of the biggest sets of the year today. There were epic moments, but it was still a bit slow between the high quality waves.
Hey everyone! Josh back behind the lens for a few days. The swell today is the largest it has been in about two weeks. It was still slow between the sets, but there were a few one hour windows and pulses.

Bummer. We’ve got overhead swell in the water today, but we’ve also got our 5th day of the year of onshore winds. (yes, we are spoiled) We stayed in San Juan Del Sur and shot some locals surfing in the Bay. Check it out.
OK, we’ve still got variable winds, rain and GOOD SWELL! It’s running overhead, to slightly bigger on sets. We got lots of pictures today – Roberto was busy. Check ’em out. We surfed a good break South of San Juan Del Sur, call Playa Remanso. It was a great wave. Check out the pics. This..
