Today I woke up with the sound of a message on my phone… usually I don’t give a sh*t about that sound if I’m sleeping but something told me that it was important, so I checked it.
I don’t believe in too many things but I really believe in my instincts, I try to follow them as much as possible…
The message was from Brian “Frankensfoot” Scott (today is his day off) basically threatening me that if I didn’t show up in the next hour, he will do the report.
How can I react to that? Still in my bed, my first thought was “f*ck the report, I’m going surfing!” but as soon as I stood up I heard my knee telling me “no, we’re not there yet” so, I had my coffee, some breakfast and headed to the beach with the camera, not the board.
Here a sequence of one of the many, many barrels caught today.
This is how a surf photographer enjoys his days off from work… he sits comfortable in the shade and watches the surf.
This guy had to pay the taxes for all of us today. Sorry bro!
While pretty much the whole US is freezing, Nicaragua is HOT with this February swell.
Ok, not all the waves were perfect, there were some big close-outs but still allowed you to ride it for a little moment before exploding.
Here is Jackson Obando coming out clean from one of the many barrels he had.
Finley has been improving his surf exponentially in the last two months he’s been here… he is a charger!
Actually, everyone out today was charging, look at that glassy wave!
The right was working good too, but the wind made it harder to get.
After a while the wind picked up a bit but the waves were still holding good.
It doesn’t matter if it’s windy or not, Jackson knows this waves so well, he always find the shade.
And not just the shade… he finds the kitchen all the way in the back, grab some water and comes out dryer that before.
The tides was going down really fast and the waves started to go a bit faster but it wasn’t a big deal for most of the local surfers.
If the waves get faster, just aim for the shoulders and you can still get a massive barrel.
Even if the waves are fast, sometimes you just need to slow down… with both hands.
I did some exercises for my knee today, I think I’m ready for some barrels. My instinct is telling me that, right instinct? please?
Looks like tomorrow will be smaller so, I’ll see you out there in the AM, maybe Brian will take a few photos of me in the barrels. Cheers!
RECENT REPORTS
Hey amigos! Welcome to Tuesday afternoon’s surf report from French Fries. It was pretty small today, but the wind wasn’t as strong as forecasted. The wind was blowing somewhat side-shore from the East though.
FROM THE ARCHIVES
No, this is not today, sorry. Welcome to the memory lane of February 17th. Today was really windy and with waves of 1-2 feet, definitely not worthy to share any photos of today… this is February 17th, 2019 at Santana.
